DN, 12 but size 18. Where to buy clothes?

My niece, aged 12, has a brain tumour. As well as leaving her blind and slightly delayed (emotional age of around 8), it has also caused huge weight gain.

Please can you give some suggestions of where to get some summer dressed, t-shirts, shorts etc, in age-appropriate styles (bearing in mind she would quite like jersey dresses etc and is young for her), but size 18/20. She is autistic so prefers relatively plain styles, natural fibres, few seams/ornaments etc.

Thanks so much!

Next petite range goes up to bigger sizes. They have lots of plain jersey dresses.

HashtagShitShop · 19/05/2023 12:51

Yours clothing appears to be the younger end I've found, same with simply be.

Vinted is another option for cheaper items x

VanityKase · 19/05/2023 12:53

I second Lucy & Yak for fun prints.

ASOS have some great, reasonably priced basics like jersey dresses.

Good luck! What a lovely Aubtie

Carolina dress rooms are a bit like popsy in that they have fun character prints. I would go more towards the capri leggings as I have a 27 inside leg and the others are super long.

They do dresses too but the material might be an issue as its super stretchy and I believe polyester

Buying natural fibres new can be a bit spendy and if your DN is still growing you might find more budget friendly options on eBay, Vinted. Depop or Poshmark.

You sound like a lovely, caring Aunty! 🥰

I really like new looks smock dresses

dwightschrutebeets · 19/05/2023 13:19

So sorry about her illness xx

Search ‘Simone’ on Fat Face website. It’s a lovely style of jersey dress and they often have them in the sale.

Niftythrifter · 19/05/2023 13:21

New Look. Goes up to a 22 so youthful and stylish at the same time as being available in their size.

purser25 · 19/05/2023 14:04

I would suggest Popsy a bit quirky but fun. I wear them and I am in my 60’s they also do leggings and under the dress shorts.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 19/05/2023 14:47

I was just about to say Popsy
They have lovely fun prints and the skater style would look good I think

I know this isn't quite what you asked but if you or another family member has a sewing machine, there are some great, beginner friendly patterns for Jersey dresses, t shirts etc, and of course you can alter the sizing to suit. "waves and wild" do some great patterns. You can buy all sorts of different patterned jerseys online (see little legs fabrics, flamingo fabrics, jelly fabrics).
If you dont fancy having a go yourself there are also small companies who will make items like this to measure (e.g. hiccups and juice, popsy and mama) - though of course this can get quite expensive.
Good luck - I hope you manage to get some lovely bits :)

I have this top but in a size 18. It’s still got tags on it. It may be a little bit big at the front for your DN but you could sew it or put a brooch at the front. I could send it if you think your DN would like it.

I am sorry to hear about your niece.
ASOS is for young people fashion and they do plus size in lots of styles. They have 20% off at the moment.
Also simplybe is good for staples as is M&S which goes up to size 26 I think.

I’d really recommend Duns Sweden. They’re all organic cotton so soft and light, but amazing bright and colourful prints that they use throughout the kids and adult clothes. I have things in prints the same as my kids, and sizing goes big but is also very generous.

They bring out a few ranges a year and the independent shops online that stock them don’t usually carry all the things in every size, so you might need to hunt around about, but definitely worth the hunt. Lots shows up on Vinted too. Also I’m 5”2 and they dresses are sometimes a bit shorter than I’d choose, so should be ok for her
length wise.

Ive added a link to one example

This style (not pattern) is what she'd choose to wear: www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1156042001.html

Goodrun Sjoden sell stuff like that in comfortable fabrics and roomy designs, plenty plain options if she doesn't like pattern

Fcuk38 · 19/05/2023 18:25

I’m personally not a fan of this brand for many reasons but try popsy as they do alterations . So if she needs it shorter or sleeve length changed. If you reached out to them they’d probably be even more accommodating for your needs.

Riv · 19/05/2023 18:30

Mountain Warehouse have some lovely soft jersey dresses for women, some of which are in "young" colours and patterns. Their summer clothing tends to come up quite short. Their prices are reasonable too.

Lydia777 · 19/05/2023 18:35

I would suggest Shein, simply as they have every kind of clothing under the sun so the variety is huge!
