I'm a Muslim convert and my sister is getting married.

I dont want to stand out and wear what I would normally wear to a Muslim wedding but I'm looking for something that would cover me and still be wedding appropriate.

My sisters theme is dusty pink and I'm looking for something long sleeved and flowy.

Please help

Aab and Shukr do some gorgeous outfits, and their hijabs are beautiful. The last non-Muslim wedding I went to, I wore a dress and hijab from Aab, added a coordinating flower hijab pin and ta-da, instant wedding-worthy outfit that you can also take apart and wear again in different settings.

I'd wear what you usually wear in a coordinating colour and you'll upstage the bride. I know a woman who got married and her Muslim convert sister was a bridesmaid. She wore the same dress as the other bridesmaids but a

Skin coloured shell underneath. She wore a turban in the same colour and she looked utterly incredible, everyone loved it!

Being Muslim doesn't mean you have to wear non western clothing. It's a choice. Plenty of Muslims wear high street brands. Why don't you wear whatever you feel comfortable in?

Some of these dresses are nice but look VERY hot, weddings tend to be warm. There are lot of standard fairly high coverage dresses everywhere from hush to monsoon, so I'd look there. Some of the stuff on this thread looks like it would create sparks (and not in a good way).

I took it as a request for help finding a suitable wedding guest dress that's still meeting OP's preferences for modesty.

It can be hard to find nice spring/summer dresses. Lots of the ones on the high street have short sleeves, or straps, or cut-out bits, or see-through bits, etc.

Layering is helpful most of the time - a strappy casual dress can be paired with a long sleeved base layer top, cut-out bits can be covered or used to show a contrasting layer underneath - but at weddings that's a challenge too as so much of what's available with weddings in mind is pretty delicate and not as covering as people might like.

OP, would you consider a wide leg suit? I've seen some nice ones around, in pastel shades that could work with the right accessories?

Not white though! Never white!

Many online stores have ‘Modest fashion’ sections now, so you should find it much easier than you might’ve done a few years ago. This is JL’s ‘modest’ section…

Sorry, I'm half asleep. I thought it was @Twilightimmortal English wedding. Clearly need to go to bed.

I normally stick to Asos or Monsoon.

Laptp · 19/05/2023 14:19

But for a close relative, I'd probably get an outfit made tbh by a tailor like in one of those Asian boutiques on Green Street/ Ilford Lane (London) or equivalent where you're based.

I have a beautiful dusty pink dress from Aab, who make modest Muslim clothing.

nevermindtime · 19/05/2023 17:11

Consider rental dresses. Can be as cheap as £40.

This has to be the best so far!

Why not take advice from your Sisters in your community?

Monsoon always have such pretty dresses
Agree regard the Fin Park shop on Fonthill Road, they have lots a very swish dresses too.

The Aab dress posted above is beautiful (it would definitely be my choice).

You also might want to try Eshakti. They allow you to customize any of their dresses to have a high neckline, long sleeves, maxi skirt etc. https://www.eshakti.com/shop/Dresses/Floral-print-georgette-A-line-shirtdress-CL0095444?view_source=regular&index=55
They have loads of designs, shapes and colours which means you have loads of choice because they can all be customized to be modest.

As you are in London, I'd look at the Asian women's clothing shops on Bethnal Green Road which do 'modest' occasionwear. There is a big line of them between street numbers 240-280ish. Most don't have websites but here's one of them
