Dr Martens - Jorge - size down or?

I’d like to get a pair of Dr Martens Jorge style. I’m size 5.5. No one in my city sells this style so I’ll have to order online.

I know for open toed sandals the 39 was too big (though normally I am a 39). Has anyone got the Jorge and can tell me if I should get a 5/38? Docs don’t come in half sizes. It’s a hassle sending things back, so I’d like to get it right first time.

I think you need to consider what kind of leather they are and how they fit your feet. If they are vegan leather, it won’t stretch or change to suit. If you have wide flippers they might be uncomfortable. If they’re nappa, it’s soft leather and all of the support from the mid foot to the back of the foot that you get from boots will be missing. It could stretch out too much. I would probably consider going with your own size and just making sure that you can return them if they don’t fit.

They’re not vegan, just the basic very firm DM leather.

I have pretty narrow feet.

Part of the problem is that Dr Martens doesn’t do half sizes and really I’m a 5 1/2.

Well the back looks adjustable. I would imagine that they’d be uncomfortable if your heel was hanging off the back. You can always bung another hole in a strap if it’s a bit too big. Also, feet tend to be “bigger” in Summer due to warmer weather, fluid retention, etc.
