Ballet pumps with higher toe box

Any suggestions for shoes with a higher toe bit? I've just bought fitflop Allegros thinking they'd be the answer to my woes of needing flat but comfy smarter shoes for work. But the top of the shoe cuts over my big toe. They're the right size length wise, any bigger and they'll slip off my heel and I have narrow feet, so don't need wider shoes. I just need he toe bit to not cut down at quite the angle.

They're horrid. They go up to size 42 though.

It took me a while to think what you meant until I realised you were talking about the vamp!

Recently bought and returned a pair of Octavia by Aeyde as they were too high cut for me. Although this particular style did not work for me, I have others from them. I have narrow feet so as a brand, they have always worked well for me. On the high street, M&S have a style that they've been making for quite a few years how, it's not low cut. However, am not sure if they're repeated it this season. But, it's worth having a look as they might have a variation.

Octavia Black Nappa – Aeyde

Octavia is our new chisel toe flat. Made with supple nappa leather, it features clean lines, elegant panelling, and a unique middle seam. It's perfect for everyday elegance. Made in Italy.

I think the pp meant a different pair from M&S, and I have some.
These onesphoto is copied from an online auction site . Mine are a different colour and the photo doesn't really do them justice.

I have several pairs of Lands End leather ballet pumps which have a rounded toe (like Hotter shoes) and deep toe box. They aren't dead flat but have a decent sole. Beware US sizing.

FancyFanny · 14/05/2023 20:13

Back when ballet pumps were last trendy I always went for Gabor ones as they came slightly higher over the big toe joint and therefore were more comfy and didn't rub on the joint.

FancyFanny · 14/05/2023 20:16

I'm not sure I'm happy to see them back in fashion again- I just remember the awful soft saggy ones everyone wore with the worn down backs and torn frayed bootcut trousers.

Long live the loafer and the brogue!

Yes! These are the ones I meant. An ex-colleague has them in a variety of colours.

I suspect this may be my answer. It's not the length of the top of the shoe I'm added it's the roundedness of the toe. A lot of shoes seem to cut over my toenail of that makes sense? They're not too small because the bottom of the foot fits and any bigger they would be falling off.

Loafers are probably more square at the front so allow more vertical toe room but I can't get passed them looking like school shoes or grandad slippers.

I have these from Everlane. A bit pricey but well made, very soft and super comfortable. Lots of colours too. https://www.everlane.com/products/womens-day-glove-tan?collection=womens-shoes

These look more like rubber galoshes that you'd wear over leather shoes to protect them in the rain.

I'll have a browse online for you @Hairbrushhandle and if I find something I'll be back with a link 😉

Would there be anything on this site that might work for you?

Even though you measure a certain size, this might not actually be your size.https://brannock.com/pages/instructions@@-fitting-tips
The size measurement comes from heel to ball of foot measurement, plus an amount for normal sized toes. I have short toes so although my feet are 7.5 just by measuring the length, I actually take an 8. By buying an 8 my feet bend in the ball at the same place as the shoes. Unfortunately this does mean that there is often a little bit of space at the end of my toes and I am unable to wear shoes that don’t have straps or laces.

@Hairbrushhandle just coming on to say that bit is called the vamp-I also like shoes with longer vamp because I have a bunion and when the shoe cuts across that it is a nightmare.
Lots of good suggestions here-and ballet flats are very on trend right now!

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 16/05/2023 14:51

I know exactly what you mean. I have some flats from M&S and they squash my big toe down. It’s uncomfortable and actually has caused me to have an ingrown toenail!

they need to be not so flat the front on the toe.

BillyNighysWife · 16/05/2023 15:03

It’s funny this thread has come up because I have been thinking exactly the same OP and discussing it with two other friends as well! I’d like to be able to wear ballet shoes this summer but previous attempts years ago looked unsightly and I ended up with misshapen shoes with the sides stretched.

I have the same problem as you and like another person posting on here my big toe bends upwards so that i constantly have holes in my socks, slippers and trainers where my big toe is.

I went to a podiatrist this week who told me I had been wearing the wrong sized shoe all my life. My feet are very wide (I knew that) but he also said I should wear size 8 (I have been wearing size 6.5 all my adult life).

One solution to ballet shoe fit would be to get one of the styles that have already been posted but I think that also sizing up and/or finding a wide fitting would work.

I think that deep down I have been in denial about my foot size. I suppose it’s a deeply held idea (certainly not conscious) that women should have dainty feet.
