Skin & Me before a big event

Is it wise to start the Skin and Me daily doser which will contain tretinoin 5 weeks before 2 big events in June?

It should be absolutely fine. They start you off on a low dose anyway so that you shouldn't get any adverse reaction.

I’m a few weeks in with bugger all difference. Actually wondering if they have given me some snake oil. You’ll be fine.

Oh god, it’s not cheap either. What dose are you on?

I've been using it for 6 months with no difference at all. The dose has been adjusted but they started off by saying it could take 3 months, then 6. I persevered but giving up now.

Thanks for your candour. Less worried about starting and having a bad purge at an inconvenient time now but now thinking if it’s as good as the hype

Skin & Me made me break out in spots and get dry red patches, I did get glowy skin eventually but I also suffer from milk spots which Skin & Me made worse so I stopped using it. 5 weeks is probably long enough to start, stop if needed and let your skin recover though.

YoDood · 13/05/2023 23:31

Didn’t work for me. Made my skin more greasy.

Loafbeginsat60 · 13/05/2023 23:35

Gave me brown patches on my skin which I can't get rid of. Looks awful

Oh no, have the support team been helpful?

I have been using this since February and my skin looks amazing! It is much smoother, dark spots are lighter and I'm definitely going to keep using it!

Amazing! Did you go through a purge or peeling?

No I had no problems at all.

If the daily doser they've prescribed has tret then you could experience purging and / or dry / flakey skin and it can take a few months to sort so yes, you are taking a risk (albeit you might be fine). Everyone's skin is different so of course not possible to predict if you will have that experience and other's experiences are going to provide limited insight into what might happen to you.

You can, however, take steps to minimise that risk by starting slowly:

  • start using every 3rd day for the first week or two, if you're fine then increase to every other day and then, a couple of weeks later, every day.
  • sandwich your doser by moisturising, waiting 10 mins and applying it and then moisturising again 20 mins or so later.
  • cut all other actives out of your routines until you've fully adjusted. That includes any direct acids, vitamin C etc. just focus on calm, hydrating products.
  • SPF 50 every day, without fail.
