Going "out out" outfit aged 40

Hello

It's come to my attention I have absolutely no fashion sense at all.

I am a size 16 apple shape & do not like wearing dresses or skirts or anything revealing midriff.

Any idea what would look good for a casual evening out?

Would jeans be appropriate, is so, would ankle grazer type ones go with flat sandals?

I'm in my early 40's. All my friends wear dresses but I hate how I look in them and I have a big night out coming up.

Please can someone a lot more stylish than me help?! Blush

How about jeans with a dressy top? Or a jumpsuit - I think a nice jumpsuit is a good go to if you don’t want to wear a dress.

I have Paperbag pvc trousers and a vest top. Simple enough.

Jeans, sandals and a wrap shirt or high neck, sleeveless top if you're OK with your arms being bare.

Jumpsuits, or what about a maxi dress? that covers a bit more than other styles?

Thanks all for your tips. Hadn't thought about jumpsuits or a maxi dress either actually.

Will get some to try Smile

My go to in this kind of situation would be a leather look legging with a loose sheer patterned blouse - can wear with heels or boots. It's comfortable but more dressed up than a cotton legging. The blouse can feel luxe and fun but is super flattering for my big belly and bust. You can wear normal underwear with it. Dress up with big hoops and layered necklaces or whatever you like. It's a bit mum-on-night-out but that's what I am so so what! I do the blouses with leather mini skirt and thick black tights with boots too but you don't like skirts and dresses. There are some lush trousers out there but they don't look great on me. Big fan though of the M&S sequin trousers - elasticated waist, pockets - so fun and comfie.
