In my head I can see the most perfect pair of brown plaid pleated front trousers , think slight vibes of Ruth Wilson in His Dark Materials , or Frankie wearing Bobbys trousers in Why Didnt they ask Evans , but straighter legs.

But I can only find a similar pair on Shein , and then not in my size , I probably need a 12 , and also want an easy try them on and return if they don’t fit type shop. Has anyone seen something like this anywhere ? Ta in advance .

What's your budget?

Theraffarian · 10/05/2023 16:23

@whirlyhead good question , I’d like to find a pair around the £50 or less mark , but might be being unrealistic as I’d like a decent fabric , I’m never good at spending a huge amount of money on clothes for myself .

@hexsnidgett I did have a quick look at cider but trust pilot seemed to suggest they are similar to shien in terms of (variable) quality , also I wasn’t sure on prices as it said they are delivered with duty unpaid .

Oh, dd has used them and the things she has seem good for the price.

Season0fTheWitch · 10/05/2023 17:05

Cider is now just expensive Shein. They used to be good but they've blown up with some good advertising and their quality dropped. Those Uniqlo ones look good, failing that look on Ebay or Depop for second hand

Theraffarian · 10/05/2023 17:11

Ooh the Uniqlo ones are close , just need them a bit darker , I’m not sure what’s worse going shopping with no idea of what you want or having the “vision” in your head 🤣 appreciate all the ideas though !

@greyhairnomore thank you , think I might order those and see how they look , to be honest I’m not 100% sure , but worth a try !

If you are up for a bit of a hunt, pleat front wool trousers from the 1990s come up all the time on Vinted. Particularly the M&S/StMichael/C&A type brands.

BranchGold · 10/05/2023 19:32

Look on Vinted op! Just search brown checked trousers in your particular size, and fall down the rabbit hole.

Theraffarian · 10/05/2023 19:44

I have a feeling with vinted I would end up with lots of pairs of trousers that are super cheap but don’t fit . I normally end up trying on copious pairs before finding ones that fit well .

Luckily for my budget the cos ones are a bit of a bigger pattern that I foresee in my crystal ball 🤦🏻‍♀️

You're right about Vinted. I buy loads for the kids but I can't think of much that I've had that has actually fitted me and looked good. I tend to stick to things like oversized jumpers where there can be a large margin of error.

Can remember ordering two pairs of trousers after trying the exact ones on in M&S. Could barely get them over my arse when they came.

Do these work?

The next ones are a bit plain , but thank you . The temu ones are perfect , I think delivery from there is hit and miss , but I was planning to order something tiny to try them out so this might slip in the basket too . Thank you all

They have a bit of a 1940s look to me. Have you tried looking at any of the vintage repro brands like Seamstress of Bloomsbury, House of Foxy, Joanie or Collectif?

If I’m barking up the right tree there’s a vintage style thread active atm that has more shop suggestions.

I also came across these whilst googling which might work?

Trousers

Classic vintage-style high-waisted, wide-leg trousers for ladies based on our original 1940s patterns. Made in our signature 40s reproduction fabric and available in a range of fabulous colours!
