Hourglass Ambient Light Powder

I really want to treat myself to Hourglass Ambient Light Powder but I'd rather poke my eyeballs with a fork than go to a beauty counter. How can I work out which would be the best shade for me if I was to purchase it online?

The difference between the shades is so subtle you might as well get any.
Also, they are sparkly.

TuesandThursNero · 10/05/2023 07:03

Why? They’re generally nice and helpful 🤷‍♀️

OneDayInYourLife · 10/05/2023 07:40

Oh no, I really don't want sparkly.

You have to try it.

lots of places carry it. SpaceNK? They usually leave you to browse in peace.

Mine certainly isn’t sparkly! Well not like a glitter, It’s a highlighter maybe you could describe as a shimmer but it’s more like a glow. I sweep it over face every morning and it’s one of my top products. I get compliments every time I go heavy on it! I have the Mood Light. The difference in them is subtle it’s kind of like some are more pink and some more peach. But they don’t have a colour really, it’s not a blush.

That’s what I thought thought. And then I looked in the mirror in bright sunlight. Alien ships could have used me as their guiding beam.

Just give it a good try before you buy.

I'm on my 3rd Dim Light. Definitely not sparkly but gives a very subtle 'improvement' without using heavy foundation.
But also, I found the staff in Space NK very nice, helpful and not pushy.

You could try buying the palette OP, and then see which one you like best. The one I have has Dim Light, Incandescent Light and Radiant Light.

Radiant Light is definitely more light a very light bronzer (works well on my pale skin), whereas Dim Light just gives a nice overall glow to your whole face. I use Incandescent light as an undereye highlighter or eyeshadow, or on my cheekbones.

None of them are heavy or glittery, just give sort of a nice glow without looking too sweaty or weird, I really like them.

Go for a mini one?

Kyse23 · 10/05/2023 10:59

I'm really pale (like pale blue) and use ethereal light all over, then incandescent strobe as a highlight

Rainbowshit · 10/05/2023 11:22

I have radiant light which I love. Free with a pp that it's more like a light bronzer. Just makes me look like I have a healthy glow.

I wouldn't say the powders are sparkly they are a lot more subtle than sparkly but they're not matte.

pharmachameleon · 10/05/2023 11:40

I would get the one with the three powders in it. It will last for years! I don't find it sparkly either.
Does anyone apply these to their nose or under eye area? I find they accentuate lines and large pores but it might be my application technique!

There are a few ambient lighting powders. The ones I think you’re referring to are the original and are not sparkly. They have a lovely satin effect to the skin. Shades are limited so you can’t really go wrong. If you’re fair-light skin tone Ethereal, Diffused and Mood are great. If you’re medium than Dim, Luminous, Mood and Radiant are fine. If you’re deep then go for Transcendant, Eternal or Radiant. As someone mentioned above the effect is very sheer/subtle so you can’t really do wrong shade-wise.

They also have a sparklier version called Infinity powders which I quite like. Plus the blusher and bronzing powders are lovely.

I would consider the palettes first if you don’t own any ambient powders. It takes ages to get through a full-size product and the palettes allows you to try multiple ones. Certain shades are repeated often in new palettes. (Eg Dim, Luminous)

This is all very helpful, thank you everyone. I don't know if I should have said I am 52, so mature skin. My foundation is Erborian Doree, which gives me an overall golden tone even though I am pale. Estee Lauder's Fresco shade is pretty much my exact skin colour.

I'm 49 and wear Dim Light over Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser 2w1/natural
