Love Vinted but hate the stupid questions

For example, one of your photo shows the label with all the measurements on it, and then you send the person a screenshot of the sizes from the website and they still bloody ask you questions

i had this the other day but it was for quite an expensive dress so I think it was a reasonable question. I was happy to send the photo - just cropped my face out.

I’m sure it’s against Vinted rules to ask for images of buyers in the items they are selling but if you’re happy then thats ok. Personally I don’t wish to end up in someones wank bank.

It is. Vinted won’t let you upload those photos but on this occasion I was happy the buyer was genuine so we swapped numbers and I whatsapped it to her. I just used my judgement

Pigtailsandall · 08/05/2023 21:28

I wish I did ask more questions! I've bought 4 things on vinted and 3 have been shite; only one item is actually wearable. The worst was an "oversized" size 16 blouse; I'm between 14/16 so actually worried it might be too big - it was so snug it barely went past my boobs. So yeah, I do ask for measures because the garment could have been shrunk or been a sample model etc.

However, I've had great experiences with selling. Only irritating buyer was a girl who offered £20 for a £40 handbag and when declined, started offering me £1 increases. Eventually just ignored her.

I have sold stuff for £3 but I do it to find a new home for clothes/to be environmentally responsible, not really so much for the cash.

MartiniFlan · 08/05/2023 21:34

i'll only add measurements if the thing i'm selling is over £100. getting a tape measure out for a £3 h&m top is just not worth it, especially when the seller is probably the type to give a 1 star rating because i said 26.2 rather than 26.1cm or something. also as someone else said, most of the time people have asked for measurements and i've sent them, they've not bought it, so i just stopped doing it for the most part.

Someone has just asked whether I have any photos of me wearing the dress..... it's a bit of a wierd question do you think? I've photographed it on a tailor's dummy so you can see how it hangs, fits etc.

I had a similar request on vinted regarding a skirt. The item had sold by the time I saw the message. I thought it a weird question too and would not have obliged.

TheChosenTwo · 08/05/2023 21:54

I include photographs of me wearing the item when it’s something of mine, usually there’s a professional photo somewhere in my camera roll that was taken at a wedding! Crop out my head, no skin off my nose.

CampervanKween · 08/05/2023 23:17

Yes luckily this sold before I had to decide what to do. I've had a flurry over the bank holiday weekend and made about £300. It's been brilliant.

Wow what kind of things have you sold and how many items do did you have listed? I’ve made about £30 this week and thought that was decent 😂

Most of what I sell no longer fits me so often I wouldnt be able to get the skirt or whatever on properly😂

CampervanKween · 09/05/2023 12:09

It's all my summer stuff, got it out the loft and there's so much I'm embarrassed 😳 mainly dresses, I'm selling them for £10 - £15 each on average. It all seems to have added up. I had to buy special envelopes off Amazon (£7.99 for 100 which I thought was a bargain)

KirstenBlest · 09/05/2023 12:14

As pp, ebay not vinted, but the low offers annoy me too, less than about 2/3 of the starting bid is insulting.

Pineda · 09/05/2023 12:32

In my experience the more questions people ask the less likely they are to buy.

FreeHome · 09/05/2023 18:30

Me too Op. I’ve got 2 rules now.

  1. I don’t answer any questions about sizing - or whether I’ve photos with me wearing it
  2. i only accept offers if I’ve already got to go and drop off at the courier

Had a great one this week. Asked me to accept an offer and I refused. A day later they offered me 50p more. But a couple of hours someone bought for full price. The original person then messaged me having a right rant and telling me how rude I was for ignoring the offer. Luckily I’ve got a thick skin

This is way I don't use Vinted. I never buy anything unless I know the pit to pit measurement, if I don't get an answer to this question I leave as it makes me think its been shrunk/shit sizing or will otherwise be bad quality. I'm not talking about a £2 tshirt,

GracePalmer33 · 10/05/2023 06:56

I'm one of the weirdos then who's asked if someone has a photo of them wearing it/photo of a real human wearing it.
It's way easier to figure out if something is going to fit /look nice and what length it is if i see it on an actual person as I can tell if I am a similar size to them. That's why clothes websites show photos on an actual human model generally and not just a flat lay or mannequin.

Plenty of people use photos of themselves (or perhaps not them but another human!) to sell things so I'm just more likely to buy from them. Like... fine if you don't have a photo of you wearing it on your camera roll but I hardly think it's creepy or means someone is trying to have a wank at your expense.

FreeHome · 10/05/2023 07:23

Most of my stuff is £5 and under or if it’s more it’s BNWT so for me it’s not worth the effort. And I don’t mind losing out on the sale

Theos · 10/05/2023 07:32

I cba to try the bloody thing on. Get a good pic. It’s £5. But it or piss off

RaininSummer · 10/05/2023 07:42

I should ask more questions about sizing a I now have 4 or 5 items which dong fit. I do ask about fabric composition a lot however as I don't like polyester or any acrylic jumpers etc so always want to know that.

popularinthe80s · 10/05/2023 07:59

I guess with diversity of opinion on here, it's like dating - you need to find the right 'fit for you.'.
I am one of those people who will ask what it's made of/even ask to see a body (no head required) in it, because that's often the only way to get a sense of how it hangs. The more questions I ask, the more likely I am to buy. But that's not because I want to lead the seller on a merry dance.
I probably miss some sellers that can't be bothered with me, which is fair enough. But those who can have my money, and I have their lovely item.

Waveyhouse · 10/05/2023 08:17

I don’t mind giving measurements. I’ve been caught out a couple of times on vinted & purchased items that said it was a size 12 but in reality, it was a lot smaller/larger, so measurements would have been useful. I
do find it abit weird when people ask for pics of you wearing the item though. Our body shapes are all different, so how it looks on me, probably won’t look the same on you.
I also can’t be bothered to get undressed, put item on, take a pic, then upload it for the sake of a £3 dress.

popularinthe80s · 10/05/2023 12:53

Agree @Waveyhouse, it has to be worth the effort. I wouldn't ask a seller to go to that much trouble for a low cost item.

climpybab · 10/05/2023 12:56

Slightly ot, but I just received a dress that's arrived badly stained and unwearable. Basically black ink on a white dress!
They are making me pay to return it foe my refund - is this right? So fucking annoying and inconvenient

Lilsoph · 10/05/2023 17:09

I have learned as a seller to give armpit to armpit measurements as well as any inside leg or nape to hem measurements as thats what I want to know as a buyer. I also generally add a photo of the label to dhow the fabric composition. Most of what I sell no longer fit me so useless me trying to take a photo on me and I rarely have my photo taken so none that I can use. Also as pp said our bodies are all different even if the same dress size.

OrangeBlossomInMay · 11/05/2023 13:54

That said, I have come to the conclusion that putting things on Vinted for under a fiver isn't worth the hassle and I'd rather take a bag of stuff to the charity shop

Agreed!
