I’ve had a major wardrobe clear out and I don’t like any of it much.
I am late 30s and I feel like my style has changed so much but I’m not sure to what.

What are people’s favourites that are either new or have stood the rest of time? I’ve had some things I’ve really loved when I bought them but now I don’t I don’t like them.

Comfortable fitting jeans for me. I just feel great when I put them on. I don't know why!

MissAtomicBomb1 · 08/05/2023 09:44

A black wool military style cape bought from monsoon about 10 yrs ago

A pair of gold leather trainers from all saints

My palmairas (have about 3 pairs as they're so comfy!)

Beetlewings · 08/05/2023 09:54

I have a navy pea coat I've had for 20 years and a tweed overcoat and either of these can lift anything else I wear.

GettingStuffed · 08/05/2023 10:47

Currently my 87p ring from Temu, it's stainless steal and shell.
My purple puffy coat
A dress from Monsoon, Indian print style

Levi jeans
Leather midi pencil skirt M&S- 5years+
All Saints Biker jacket about 10 years old and tshirts - I buy one a year.
Faux leather jeggings M&S and Vera Moda (one from charity shop and online last A/W)
360 cashmere jumpers
Karen Millen Kilt at least 5 years old
Denim dress Topshop 5 years+

I love everything in my wardrobe though otherwise it doesn't get in. I'm ruthless but it works for me. If you have gone off things buy some new stuff that you love but make sure you wear the hell out of them, no saving things for best! I've just sent a work blazer, dress and wool skirt to a charity shop I've recently retired and although lovely items for the office realistically they won't get worn now.

Niftythrifter · 08/05/2023 11:17

Whistles animal print scarf. It was pretty expensive for what it was but gets worn every year and it must be circa 15 years old now!

Jane Shilton bag that was bought in a charity shop for less than a fiver and I couldn’t bare to part with and has had many compliments over the years even though now it looks well worn and beaten up.

Barbour quilted jackets, I just love these.

Niftythrifter · 08/05/2023 11:27

Zara jeans that I bought a couple of summers ago. They have an unfinished hem and slightly flared and make my legs look fab.

Todaynotalways · 08/05/2023 11:31

Sweaty Betty 'Gary' yoga pants. They're cuffed around the ankle, strangely flattering and great for every day wear.

Gucci sunglasses - the only pair of sunglasses I've ever actually enjoyed wearing. Usually I wear sunglasses due to glare-necessity, with these, I hope for glare so I have the opportunity to wear them.

ShinyNewBear · 08/05/2023 11:52

I think I buy things that I like as individual items but then I’ve got a mixed range of styles so nothing seems to go with everything else!
i never have enough money to buy loads of things at once - I think that’s why.
Zipps I think you are right about being ruthless!

Jeans - mine are all Levi’s because they tend to fit me best, but I know M&S get a lot of love on here. I like that Levi’s size by waist rather than 8/10/12.

An Arket jumper which I have collected up in multiple colours over the last few years. It’s an alpaca wool, slightly oversized, crew neck, with wide sleeves. Really soft and cosy.

Now we’re coming into summer, good t-shirts. I like plain ones from Arket, and have nice graphic/printed ones from Joanie and more recently Anine Bing via Depop.

Definitely a Marmite item, but a checked cotton/seersucker dress from Monki which is the perfect throw on summer outfit. I now own it in four colours, although this year’s purchase has the tags still on so far.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/05/2023 12:05

Oh. Another item that is quite divisive! Last August I bought an orange quilted/puffer coat from &OtherStories. It’s calf length, very oversized, and highlighter bright. I love it so much. Never have I had so many comments from random people on something, from quips about being off to dig roads in my high-viz to people saying how much I have cheered them up.

JMAngel1 · 08/05/2023 12:35

These would be my “save them in a fire” items

A black wrap skirt that was cheap as chips from eBay but somehow takes 3 inches off my stomach and makes my legs look endless.

Black faux leather plush lined leggings.

Slouchy distressed jeans from Lake Garda - just fit me perfectly and feel like “me”

Tan gladiator wedge sandals in soft leather - probably 10 years old now but they look “current” every year somehow.

One hundred stars long kimono wrap - strictly indoors but so luxurious.

A cashmere slouchy slightly off the shoulder grey jumper.

Dark olive green suedette trench from Zara - makes my strawberry blonde hair and green/amber eyes pop.

Supersimkin2 · 08/05/2023 13:15

Turnbull & Asser cobalt blue huuuge man’s cashmere jersey - way cheerful
and cosy.

Jigsaw dark blue leather trainers - they’re immortal, just don’t show wear and go with everything.

Summer nighties ‘cool comfort’ M&S - they work.

Highlighter grass green mac from Monki - feel like a walking park, people stop me in the street to 👌

Old Celine sunglasses.

Niftythrifter · 08/05/2023 14:16

Le Plaige too for me!

JMAngel1 · 08/05/2023 17:04

Oooh can I add two things?

My ancient All Saints black leather jacket - kind of a waterfall effect at front and high cut at the back. Again, somehow it works every year.

My collection of Marc Jacobs bags - all from ebay over the years in various colours - dark grey, cream, nude, black (Natasha, Francesca Q, Ukita and Hillier) - the new MJ styles just don’t compare IMO.
