Christening outfit

Wise people of mumsnet, please help me find an outfit to wear to my sons christening.

I'm 5ft 1 and a size 16. My belly is huge, as is my arse and I want them to not look huge. I've average sized boobs (C cup) and legs and calves that are like tree trunks.

I've always been a size 12 so am not used to being this size and I don't feel comfortable at all.

I have a swinging belly with pouch (EMCS) that I need to disguise.

Dress wise I think I suit v neck wrap with a tie belt and some light frills going on at the wrap parts.

In my head, I feel like I look slimmer in ankle trousers that are fitted with a clever designed dating blouse of sorts and I'd love lighter coloured trousers but I really struggle with trousers at the minute because my belly is so big compared to the rest of me. I also have lots of fat above my area (like a shelf).

I've really painted a bad picture of my body haha!

Ideas anyone? 🤷‍♀️ (oh colour wise. I'm fair skinned and blonde with blue eyes)

Thank you. There are a few potential options on there 😊

Have a look at the Dannii Minogue Petite range on QVC - here is a wrap dress, there is a video, watch to the end to see it on plus size model

Also have a look at the Lipsy Petite range at Next - not so many wrap styles but they are very flattering on

I wore this to my sons christening a couple weeks ago. I'm a size 16 with 34HH boobs and it was so flattering, I felt so comfy. It skimmed my tummy but somehow still made my bum look good 😂

Thanks everyone!

@USaYwHatNow - I really like this one and think it will suit my colouring. There is a quiz not too far from me so might pop over today to see if they have this in store to try.

@USaYwHatNow - I tried the dress on and it's a no I'm afraid. It was very comfy and flattering around the bum and tum but the puffy sleeves just dwarf me unfortunately - otherwise it would have been perfect.

If you have time before the Christening can’t you just have the sleeves altered?

helpmenotlookfat · 09/05/2023 23:23

Not really. It wouldn't be a case of just removing the puff. For them to suit my shape id need extra material to make them longer and more wing shape and I'm not sure how that would even look with the rest of the dress.

@helpmenotlookfat ah that's such a shame, I'm sorry it wasn't quite right. Have you got any other options in the pipeline? I tried on another Quiz dress which has the same sort of shape which you might find has a better sleeve for you?

I've just tried to find it online but can't, however I know it's still in my local shop so I've added a picture of me trying it on in case you like it and wanted to ask in store.

@USaYwHatNow - thanks so much for uploading a picture! I think I saw that one in the shop yesterday, or one very similar. I will have a look when I return the other dress. It looks lovely on you.

I've ordered a dress online - www.yoursclothing.co.uk/yours-london-curve-green-floral-hanky-hem-dress-p?currency=GBP&gclid=CjwKCAjwge2iBhBBEiwAfXDBR0pY4uMf8bZ6gJYNXHBObQD8JgwRv4ZJlTLwuoGVbpQh0Xl6HMq4qBoC5LQQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I've also ordered a top online to pair with some navy ankle grazer fitted trousers and perhaps peep toe shoes. I love the shape but I'm now second guessing that perhaps the shiny foil is a bit too much? - www.next.co.uk/g8831s2/c09586

@helpmenotlookfat what did you go for in the end OP?

helpmenotlookfat · 06/06/2023 19:23

@USaYwHatNow Hey! So I (finally) found a lovely dress yesterday at a local boutique shop.

I just have to pick some nice shoes to go with. I'm thinking peep toe in either silver or gold 🤷‍♀️

My ivory wedding shoes would actually look lovely with it but they pinch my toes terribly and I want to be comfortable.
