Prom dress help please

Dd has her Year 11 prom at the end of June. I really wanted to get her dress sorted well before GCSEs but here we are with a week to go before exams starting and still no dress despite 3 visits to shops.

She’s looking for dark green, preferably sparkly with a v neck or low cut front. Straight style bottom with a slit.

We’ve looked at a few online options but some of these websites look a bit dodgy. She likes some dresses from Windsor which I think are US based and have very mixed reviews.

I want to help by looking around myself so she can concentrate on revision. She’s also worrying about getting a dress that’s too similar in colour or style to her friends. Should this be a concern?

Most girls tend to share their dresses on a WhatsApp group or similar so they don't get the same

BadlydoneHelen · 07/05/2023 14:34

How about this one

BadlydoneHelen · 07/05/2023 14:49

I know you're not so keen on online retailers but JJs house has a decent reputation and this might suit?

bendmeoverbackwards · 07/05/2023 14:54

Oohh thank you, that’s just the sort of thing!

I meant the Hebeos one, think dd would really like that. Thank you @BadlydoneHelen have you bought from Hebeos before?

Can really recommend Butterflies Bridal and Prom outlet on Facebook, they have some beautiful green prom dresses

BadlydoneHelen · 07/05/2023 15:02

Heard of it, not bought from it: came up on a quick Google!

BadlydoneHelen · 07/05/2023 15:05

Plenty on Pretty Little Thing though which my DD has used a lot

bendmeoverbackwards · 07/05/2023 15:22

Poor online reviews for Hebeos unfortunately

Looks nice, but £116 for something only worn once or maybe twice.

You can understand why I think this is an event that should be consigned to history. We are not the 51st state.

bendmeoverbackwards · 07/05/2023 15:31

I agree @LlynTegid I’m hating the whole thing. But dd wants to get dressed up and go with her friends so what can you do 🤷‍♀️

Get one off DPop and sell it straight afterwards - DD did this and made £10!

moose62 · 07/05/2023 16:04

Unfortunately I wouldn't buy one from China which many of these cheaper websites are...I had my fingers burnt with an order of £100 and as you are reliant on them answering an email, I got nowhere and as I paid by my bank card I wasn't covered by visa!

bendmeoverbackwards · 07/05/2023 16:12

Thank you, some good suggestions especially the Debenhams one.

@moose62 yes that’s the problem with some of these sites, they look legitimate on first inspection but some of the reviews are awful and people have been scammed.

@Unicorn2022 thank you for the butterflies recommendation.

Do NOT buy from Hebeos someone started a thread on here because they received a dreadful dress from there

bendmeoverbackwards · 08/05/2023 12:12

Thank you @HappiDaze will definitely avoid.

@BadlydoneHelen have you bought from JJ’s house before?

Have you tried eBay? We looked over a few weeks and got one last week it’s lovely and cost a third of what we were going to pay. Most only get worn 1-2x so worth looking.
