My mum is 77, and is looking for a nice outfit as my brother is getting married. It's a daytime do in a nice barn.

Please can you suggest shops in the Midlands?

She likes sea salt but it's not smart enough,

OP, I suspect most people reading your thread will not be able to advise on specific shops ‘in the Midlands’ beyond suggesting the usual chain stores or a free stylist consultation at your nearest John Lewis.

If, on the other hand, you could tell us your mother’s preferred colours and style of event dressing, usual clothing size, height and proportions, and budget - people can suggest clothes and post links to online sources. (And you or your mother can find out if particular things are available in specific physical shops. Good luck with that, btw!)

Also worth knowing whether she wants something she might wear again in normal life.

How long does she have to look? A week, a month, six months? Makes a difference to how experimental she can be, and whether she can take advantage of any sales.

But my suggestion would be Selfridges in Birmingham. (Assuming it’s still there.)

I’ve had a personal shopper at John Lewis and it’s been a lovely experience. They will listen to your likes, dislikes, colour preferences budget but also introduce new ideas, Take along shoes and/or bag you may already have and they will work with that too.

she wants something with a jacket as she feels the cold.

she likes Seasalt, jacques vert.

shes summer colouring so ivory, pinks, violets, blues. Avoids black.

wants something to cover her décolleté as she has a lot of sun damage.
