Lip gloss / balm / shimmer / something.

I’ve never used much on my lips, mainly tinted Burts Bees balm or maybe a bit of lipstick if going out.

However I’ve noticed everyone now seems to have some kind of sheeny tinted gloss on, I don’t know how to describe it. Not as shiny as gloss but a lot more sheen than a lipstick or stick lip balm. A bit of a glow to it and maybe a plumping effect. I last used gloss in the Juicy Tubes era when your hair stuck to your lips, didn’t like it. These new ones look a lot better.

But what are they called? What should I be looking for? And can anyone recommend some good non sticky ones please? Can stretch the budget if the pricier ones are much better.

Thank you!

I’m also interested in a product like that. I was thinking about juicy tubes the other day. I have tried Clarins lip oil but it doesn’t really make the lips shiny.

I liked the one a friend had, she said it was from Beatypie, looking it up I think it may be their Wondergloss? I’m a bit wary of ordering online though as I always seem to choose the wrong colour!

Would nars afterglow lip balm orgasm suit? I don't find it sticky

minipie · 05/05/2023 11:48

Thanks, yes that looks good - I can find a nars stockist and give it a try. I see it’s a stick - I think the ones I am seeing people wear are the “wand and tube” type and so a bit glossier, but I suspect I am going to be more comfortable with a stick type !

Fenty Beauty have a really nice red plumping lipgloss called Gloss Bomb Heat in the shade Hot Cherry

For a more natural, easy wearing gloss I really like the red Dr PawPaw multipurpose balm. It's lovely on cheeks too.

Because I am bored, here are some swatches of them on my hand Grin

Oh thanks! Love the live swatching 😆 The pink one looks a bit sticky (is it?) but the red one looks good

Do any of these last more than 5 minutes… ?

The Fenty one (top) is a bit stickier than the other but nowhere near as sticky as juicy tubes were (I love how technology progresses with cosmetics!). The colour and plump (I feel like it just defines your lips more than actual big plumping, but it's a very noticeable effect) do seem to last a while.

The bottom Dr PawPaw is very silky, not sticky at all and feels like a balm. This lasts quite well and stain a bit so does last. I always get compliments on it when I wear it.

minipie · 05/05/2023 12:17

Thank you! I don’t need major plumping, more moisturising I guess. The Dr Paw Paw one sounds fab, a bit of a stain would be great.

You need the Clinique black honey 'almost lipstick' it's the loveliest balm/stain/stick hybrid. Leaves a lovely sheen to your lips- the colour looks terrifying but it's actually very sheer and natural (but better) once on

I love the Beauty Pie ones. They're very sheer, so I don't think you can go wrong with colours.

Have you tried burts bees lip shimmer, n9t a lipstick but more than the tinted balm

minipie · 05/05/2023 18:17

Yes I have the burts bees lip shimmer. I do like it, it’s probably my favourite out of what I have. I guess I wanted something a bit more moisturising and liquid? Although also lasting and not sticky… moon on a stick eh!!

I will have a look at the Clinique thanks. I remember their “almost makeup” was quite revolutionary at first, before all the BB/CC creams came out, maybe the almost lipstick is the same!

I wonder if I can find some pictures of the Beautypie ones on actual people - it’s so hard to tell makeup colour from a picture of the bottle <grump>

L'Oréal do a balm type lipstick called 'colour riche shine ' which is lovely. Non sticky, light and in tots of different colours. Not expensive either.

learieonthewildmoor · 05/05/2023 18:32

Kosas make a lip oil which is really lovely. They’ve got one in a champagne shimmer. I like Dip, it’s a beautiful nude if you are fair.

I also love the beauty pie gloss.

The Nars Afterglow in Dolce Vita is nice, natural looking but glossy

tothesea · 05/05/2023 22:58

I like Dior Lip Glow but it’s a bit spendy for me do will be checking out some recs on here. I
think No7 do a sheer lipstick.

Ive recently tried the Revolution Glaze Lip Oil in Lust Clear

https://www.superdrug.com/make-up/lips/lip-oil/revolution-glaze-lip-oil-lust-clear/p/826814 Feels very moisturising but the cherry scent/taste is a bit sickly.

I much prefer the No 7 Hydraluminous Lip Balms.
