It's a bit Les Battersby.

Niftythrifter · 03/05/2023 17:50

Yes! I think I did a dark midi skirt with lighter or slightly similar denim shirt! I doubt anyone cares what I was wearing and if they did I didn’t care.

QuickGuide · 03/05/2023 17:53

This is o e of those rules there to be broken. It's not for me, but based on what the young people around me are wearing, I'd say it's currently quite fashion forward.

Vitriolinsanity · 03/05/2023 21:44

It's too fine a line between cool and Michelle Fowler for me.

RoseAndRose · 03/05/2023 21:45

It looks fab if you're going to a Status Quo type event

SallySunrise · 03/05/2023 21:46

My toddler looks cute in double denim...adults, no.

LolaSmiles · 03/05/2023 21:50

Everything on the DO list is also a DON'T to me 😁
Same here, except the oversized denim shirt. That could work if the weight and tone of the denim is right.
I also like black/white denim combined with different shades of blue, which is on the don't list.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 03/05/2023 21:58

I wore blue denim shirt and light grey jeans with a coloured top the other day. I felt like was ok!

I do double denim. Dark on the bottom with lighter coloured shirt or blouse. I do oversized shirts over mom jeans. I even have lyocell denim dresses I wear over straight leg jeans with large turn ups. I wear a denim blazer with straight legs too. DH does rip the piss but I don't care!

Pigtailsandall · 03/05/2023 22:57

Of course. I wore it today. Black straight-leg jeans and a light-weight, light blue oversized shirt.

I've worn it & I'm in my 50's.
Not solely on it's own but layered under a cashmere jumper & a camel coat - in March. Here it is courtesy of the Whering App.

I wore double denim today- shirt and jeans ( straight, not skinny) beige linen blazer, sleeves rolled, cross body dark beige bag, similar coloured belt, trainers. My 22 year old said it looked great..it looked ok to me too

RoseMartha · 04/05/2023 20:36

I wore it today as well. Denim jacket and jeans, with hoodie underneath. Jacket darker than the jeans.

I dont care if it is on trend or not. It is the only summer weight coat i have.

thebestbirtheraccordingtoDD · 05/05/2023 07:40

If it's good enough for Skakin Stevens it's good enough for me

Cantonet · 05/05/2023 08:00

I'm wearing it today in the form of a Chambray linen shirt with jeans & a Mac/leopard print boots.
I prefer this & fluid denim look lyocell shirts to the traditional stiff denim.

BestIsWest · 05/05/2023 08:08

I’m very conflicted but I think sometimes it works. I have worn a light blue denim shirt with dark jeans but can’t imagine wearing a denim jacket with jeans. My DC ( in their twenties) frequently do and they always look great.
I wore it in the 80s though.

Merchdda · 05/05/2023 12:26

I've been wearing black denim dungarees with a cropped blue denim jacket. It looks fab and has definitely given my denim jacket a new lease of life. I think it's very much to do with attitude and if you wear it with confidence pretty much anything works.

potatohead1 · 05/05/2023 13:15

Yeah but I think you need to be quite cool to pull it off

Hotfootgoose · 05/05/2023 13:17

It worked for shakin stevens !

potatohead1 · 05/05/2023 13:18

Lydia Tomlinson does it well

Les Battersby & Michelle Fowler GrinGrin

fivestarrating · 05/05/2023 14:56

I love it.
For me it needs to be fairly matchy-matchy because that's the whole point.

I love denim dresses and dungarees too, and actually double denim gives me this look but without the need to shave my legs or have bathroom/loo dramas!
