Just for fun… I have four occasions to dress up for this summer

  1. School reunion - bar that can be booked out for functions
  2. Cocktail/Dinner dress code - works function and lots of hemlines seen last year but men mostly in suit jackets and ties rather than tuxedos
  3. Wedding guest - all day, in a castle rather than church
  4. 40th party guest - dress code 1950’s in a social club

I’m short but contrary to MN rules I’m very happy with maxi and midi lengths. No above the knee dresses please. I don’t necessarily need petite fit but I do avoid large scale patterns as they tend to overpower me.

If I could get one outfit for all then my budget could be higher than four separate outfits. Open to hiring/second hand if expensive. Very small cross over for three of the events.

Show me your ideal outfits for these events please.

Lots of different styles suggested.

I’ve just been on eBay and will likely get a second hand dress from Lindybop for the 1950s do to take that out of the equation. I looked on the Suzannah website a couple of weeks ago and they are truly stunning but I feel like I need to be a top politicians wife or Elizabeth Taylor 😍

I don’t think the Erdem are worth the price. I like them but they look quite generic?

I like the first Outnet one but it’s probably a little bit too posh for all events. Hate the belt on the Phase 8 dress and not sure about the fabric on the long pink dress.

Quite a lot of Wolf and Badger I seem to like actually. Kands has a similar look to Ghost - does anyone know if the fit is similar?

That's a lovely dress. It looks as if it's really easy to wear and would give you an instant lift up putting it on but it's a day / work dress, not an occasion dress.

If you like Erdem, it's worth looking at the Outnet's discount pages www.theoutnet.com/en-gb/shop/designers/erdem

What type of school did you go to? Jeans and trainers would be my choice for that ( not that I'd go) Lundy bop or voodoo vixen for 19592 or jeans and gingham shirt with head scarf. Velvet for the castle as it will be freezing and lbd for the other thing

Not the type of school where many people will have heard of Erdem or would spend that much on an outfit. Going off what some of the guests would wear on a night out it will be more than jeans at a guess.

That Jigsaw dress is a bit too plain to give me a special boost iyswim.

I have one of these in the short sleeve length - very versatile! Depending on whether I’d dress down with a cropped jacket (denim? Biker?) and sandals for the reunion. Dress up with heels and a clutch in a contrasting colour for the work function. Add a hat and a floaty kimono style jacket for the wedding. Then do 50s make up/accessories for the vintage party.
