What clothes and shoes are you going to buy for this summer?

I’ve just been sorting out my wardrobe and chucked a few things away which are worn and a bit scruffy.

I need a pair of trainers (yes I do actually need them as I reckon mine are about twenty years old, no exaggeration!)

I just bought a pair of chunky pair of black sandals. I wouldn’t mind a pair of sandals in a lighter colour too or maybe a pair of Superga.

I bought a lovely blue dress for every day from White Stuff. Not worn it yet but that’s ready when the weather improves.

I had already bought a white blouse from Monsoon about six months ago which will be nice for the summer.

Apart from that, I don’t intend to buy anything as I have plenty of t-shirts, a couple of skirts and I don’t need a jacket. I’m not going on holiday this year, I’ve got no big events like a wedding, so I’m going to try and make do with what I’ve got.

What summer clothes do you need this year and what have you got your eye on?

When it comes to shoes I live in sandals in the summer. These arrived today https://espadrille.co.uk/product/tan-leather-cross-over-strappy-sandals/ and I'm so pleased with them. I really want it to get a bit warmer as I'm so tired of winter clothes.
For the summer I have bought:
Wide leg cropped off white jeans - Primark
A black maxi tube dress from Cos
Two lovely black vest tops, one is cropped with a lace trim
A lovely white broderie blouse styled like a jacket also from Primark
Khaki barrel leg style trousers
A straw cross body bag from M&S

That's all I'm likely to buy for now as I have plenty of clothes already.

Nothing at this moment.

I usually live in Birkenstocks in the summer but also need a pair of comfy trainers for walking in the park! Not sure what to go for yet. I'm also going to invest in a nice pair of jeans (maybe 501s) as I have loads of blouses and shirts that will be great for summer. Nothing else really as I have a white denim skirt and some khaki shorts, plus 3 midi dresses that should all see me through to September.

I really want this dress but I have a lot of dresses and I don’t really need another one so I’m in constant discussion with myself about it . I’ll probably give in and get it before our July holiday.

ShinyShinyShinyBootsOfLeather · 29/04/2023 22:00

I need a light jacket. All of mine are too warm and wintry.

I would like some new trainers, but I can't wear them to work which is quite a formal place so not sure I can justify it. I wear trainers for walking quite a lot, so that's probably the justification!

I'd also like some better sandals. Mine are either pretty impractical flatform one which look great but I'm worried I'll twist my ankle in them! The others are too flat with no cushioning so can only really wear them on the beach.

Maybe some shorts as well. I don't think I need any more dresses, but if something amazing catches my eye then maybe

I generally aim to buy decent quality, then wear it 'til it dies. Unfortunately lots of stuff has decided to die simultaneously 😩

My trainers probably have just a couple of months left going on past experience and how thin the soles currently are. I walk 25-30 miles a week mostly on knackered pavements, so find I wear through a pair a year (always under the balls of my feet!) despite wearing boots through the wetter colder months. It's annoying how quickly they die, but because they are so much more comfortable than any others I've ever owned, I have broken my 'quality' rule, grumble, and grudgingly shelling out for a new pair each year.

A new pair of loose-fitting 3/4 trousers to replace a pair that died last summer. Either hareem or wide-leg in cotton or linen will do, whichever I spot first that fits comfortably.

3/4 length jeans, again to replace a much-loved pair that are now so holey I can't even justify using them for gardening.

A couple of new tops. Having accepted my body shape change is an age-related permanent one (rather than post-baby/getting-fit-again-will-fix-this), I had a complete purge of all tops that now cut me off in the wrong place a few years ago. I only bought a few new ones that are suitable for hotter weather, so they've had heavy wear and are now on their last legs. I've repaired 2 of them once already, but they've started to fall to bits in other areas now too. I am hoping I'll be able to get these from Vinted or Ebay.

Everyday bras x 3. Again replacements for crumbling relics.

A fair amount but cheapish, I've lost more than 4 stone since last summer and am back in a 12 (14 in some places), but I'm working out a lot now and still losing, another 1-1.5 stone will put me back in my preferred size ten so I'm not buying anything as a long term investment but my clothes from last summer are far too big

Espadrilles

Thank you for posting the link to your sandals. I now want the low wedge espadrilles in every colour and style.

EllaPaella · 30/04/2023 08:26

@NatashaDancing aren't they beautiful? If the quality of the sandals is anything to go by I'd highly recommend.

windmill26 · 30/04/2023 10:55

One pair of tailored linen trousers and a pair of Loro Piana loafers (that I have been saving up for). I buy with longevity in mind so I'd rather spend more, buy less and wear them for years.

LlynTegid · 30/04/2023 10:58

Other than 'smalls' nothing. Bought a new pair of trainers last month. Since working from home fully or now the majority of time I have consciously been buying as little as possible.

HuntingoftheSnark · 30/04/2023 11:27

I have bought this dress from French Connection.

Also another from Next but sent it back because they clearly modelled it with tucks in the waist. It was shapeless on me.
