Please help me.choose a hat for ascot royal enclosure.
I'm thinking of this self portrait dress. I imagine no other guests will be wearing self portrait!!!! Haha, but still I love it.
I'd quite like an unexpected choice ie. not blue.
Any ideas welcome.e

Depends whether the undertone is beige or pink, this hat from JL come in a more taupe colour too.

Otherwise you could go for a colour clash eg yellow but might be a bit too much going on

The John Lewis one is awfully safe.

Fabhatrix

This might give you ideas but most of their hats are either bespoke or not in shop only.

Speak to your local florist and they could make you a fascinator with dried flowers or even real flowers for the day. That way you could pick your own colours. I bet they have loads of suggestions.

I can recommend

Thanks all. I'd likely hire a hat.
Sadly the j Lewis ones are not hitting the mark but other links are worth looking g.

Have you tried a larger branch of one of the charity shops near you?
One of our local hospice shops always has loads at this time of year. It'll save you £££££

The John Lewis ones are far too safe. At Ascot you can go bonkers.

John Lewis have got the perfect hat to go with your pretty blue frock!
It is by their own in house brand and called KIERA Organza Swirl selling for £35. It's a bright cobalt blue, this season's colour and will really give your dress a stylish lift. The design elements are spikey petals, so it will turn your frock into an ensemble, just what you need for the Royal Enclosure!
I know you were not looking for a blue hat, but this will look fab, especially if you pair it with an unusual bag colour, bright orange perhaps?

JL also make some very nice bright pink hats, eg Jess upturned disc £40 or Tilly Bow £68, but the pink and blue combo is much more predictable.

Enjoy your day at Ascot, whatever you wear!

RidersOnTheCalm · 29/04/2023 17:31

Yes tried charity shops.
Most of them seem to have brims and I can't wear as my head is quite small and I can't see!

Where in the country are you OP?

If you're anywhere near the North East there is a brilliant lady near me who makes amazing hattinators for hire, and she also makes them to order

RidersOnTheCalm · 29/04/2023 17:43

No south east sadly.
Would either of these work?

Apparently your hat needs a 4” base for the royal enclosure.

Thank you, that blue JL one would be OK I'm sure....

That’s a chat gdp reply!

JL Keira Fascinator

Oh sorry I really, really don't like that. It's very ordinary. I think Ascot is the opportunity to let rip hatwise.

They're all about that base

Is it ? That explains the odd suggestion then. That JL fascinator is dull.

I don’t think chat gpt can infiltrate forums and join in threads?

RidersOnTheCalm · 29/04/2023 18:21

My response sounded chat gpt? Or the jl kiera hat recommendation was?

I would go for hot pink or coral with that. Can't add the photo for some reason but House of Hawthorne on instagram have lovely hats that would suit.

Farrowandballsy · 29/04/2023 18:33

now it's working!

No, not your reply but the recommendation for that really quite ordinary JL hat.
