Which dress?

I’m going to a wedding in June and the dress code on the invites is cocktail dress. I usually just wear a nice summer dress to weddings so I’m not really sure if anything I already have is smart enough. I’ve found a couple a like, do any of them look suitable? For reference I’m 5ft4 and size 10.

I think number 1 could pass as a cocktail dress (it’s a lovely dress) but not 2 and 3 which I would describe as summer dresses and too casual to be described as cocktail dresses. When I think of cocktail dresses I would think of evening dresses so something you would not wear ordinarily in the day IMO

@kkneat this is my dilemma, the wedding is in the day so it complicates matters!

I'm going to one with the same dress code- ? The same one! From my ( extensive ) research the family and friends are wearing a mix of fairly typical summer wedding/ races outfits. The younger guests are wearing pretty dresses with no worry about having shoulders covered etc. So, I think it's fairly flexible!

The pink one is lovely - I don’t like the other two and think they look more like everyday summer dresses.

mewkins · 28/04/2023 09:55

I like the first two. Try both on and see what looks best? I don't understand what they're hoping to achieve with the dress code. I suspect everyone will just turn up in standard wedding stuff (unless they have really scruffy friends so are hinting that they need to smarten up!)

I like the pink one:-)

I have to say I was leaning towards the blue one or pink one (me+em). It feels like it’s never going to warm up to might go for the one with the longest sleeves.

The first one is really lovely and has a bit more glam about it.

What an awkward dress code. A cocktail dress is a short or to the knee with a bit of structure or sparkle. Not exactly comfy for a full day’s wear, especially if it’s hot. A cocktail dress will be
lined and sweaty in the height of summer or sequins, they make you hot too.

The first one is gorgeous

I’ve gone for the first one, thank you all for sharing your opinions. Now just praying it doesn’t completely drown me 🤞

Agreed . A cocktail dress for me would be short to knee length or just below. I have 3 dresses that I'd consider - I is black velvet and black silk organza, 1 is green silk jacquard and I navy silk jacquard.

Hope you enjoy the day.

The first one struck me as one that would look great on a certain shape, which I hope is you.
