Jeans for a big bum

I’m looking for some really good, flattering jeans that will suit a pear shape if anyone has any recommendations. My waist is 27, hips 42 and I’m fed up with looking frumpy in clothes that don’t flatter!

I feel like with the world being so bum-obsessed thanks to the kardashians et al it should be easier to find good jeans and my S.O has offered to buy me some for my birthday, money no object, since I currently wear primark and it’s very ‘buy cheap, buy twice’. I find they either fall down/droop horribly at the waistband & crotch if I go by my hip measurement, or the waist band rips as I pull them up (like my current pair) if I go smaller.

I’m not used to dressing to enhance my figure, normally I cover it up, but I want to start actually enjoying my appearance a bit and having good quality jeans feels like a decent start!

A number of places now do 'curvy' collections where they make their normal jeans but with an extra few inches in the bum and thigh.

Abercrombie - these work well for me and I'm 24W 36H, so the difference isn't quite as extreme as yours so it might not eliminate the waist gap for you.

ASOS - not tried them myself.

Everlane - I really like these, but I bought them on holiday in the US and don't think they have a UK stockist, so you risk paying a fortune in delivery, import duty, and returns.

Good American - heard great things, not tried them personally, but similar to Everlane they are US based so logistically annoying.

All this being said, your waist is so tiny compared to your hips you might be best buying jeans where you love the fit on the legs, hips, and bum, and just get them tailored, my local place will do it for £16-£20. It's really frustrating but might be easier if you hate jeans shopping as much as me.

In terms of Good American, if you are near a branch of Fenwicks then they stock them as well as a range of other denim brands. Maybe consult a personal shopper in John Lewis as they have quite a good selection of jeans.

Buy a belt and jeans with loads of stretch in. And don't expect anything in Primark to ever be flattering on anyone.

I'm short so tend to buy most of my jeans from places with petite ranges. Most of Next ones are stretchy.

Thank you all for the suggestions. My S.O lives near bluewater so the plan was to go there and try on as many pairs as it takes to find one that fits 😂

If I still come up with nothing, tailoring is a good shout.

I'd try M&S, FatFace and Levi's.
Ask an assistant and be willing to try on different styles and sizes. Take a small mirror to check the rear view.

Tu at Sainsbury's. I wear their straight leg jeans and they are great for this shape, with just the right amount of stretch.

I’ve had a few from the ASOS hourglass range and find them really good.

I’m a 30 waist (probably 28 now as lost weight) and wear:-

F&F curve with stretch ripped
H&M mom jeans from about a year ago - no stretch and similar Top shop jeans.

H&M skinnies from about 12 years ago.

Try on loads before you buy them in my experience/opinion.

I do have other jeans and wanted to get nicer ones but until I lose more weight these are the best.

Definitely go to John Lewis or Levi’s store but beware, I was in a local Levi’s store day weekend and quite sales heavy so go with friend/SO/relative if you want an unbiased view.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 28/04/2023 14:22

My hips/thighs are probably smaller so size 12-14 for info.
