Tummy tuck

Does anyone have experience of a tummy tuck? What realistically can I expect. I'm in my 50s. Should have thought about this years ago. Menopausal fat distribution has made me think about it more. I'm not excessively overweight. Carrying a bit of a menopausal belly but surgeon said I'm in the lower end of what he sees weight wise (I'm not low in weight, just on the lower end of people who go to seek a TT). I have a roll of fat under my boobs. With a TT remove this?
Will I have a flat stomach or just a smaller one than the one I have now?
I know a big slice is removed but is fat cut away from the remaining flesh that is stretched over?

Sorry to jump on this post, but in the future I am hoping to be able to get a tummy tuck, in a couple of years.

How do people manage with work? I would t want to tell anyone, and assume as it's cosmetic surgery I won't get time off for recovery, so how do people manage with discussions with employers

SaveMeFromForearms · 26/04/2023 19:23

I had one four years ago, best thing I ever ever did.

Recovery was...well, up and down really. I actually was working from home five days later, but maybe shouldn't have been.

First few days were pretty awful, but after that just slow really. I couldn't drive for maybe three weeks.

I've lost another 2.5 stone since having it; I had lipo on my waist too and now have a lovely shape which I'm determined not to lose.

I don't really want to share pics but trust me, it's well worth it; I've never felt so confident in my adult life as I do now.

TT will of course change over the years. I also have a belief that sometimes when you put weight on that it goes on weirdly after a TT.

Seeing I am now post menopausal I doubt I'll be putting weight on

I’m clinical nhs - can’t take sick leave as it’s cosmetic so I’ve had to use 2 weeks annual leave. I may have to self certify for a further week as I don’t know if I’ll be up to going back when I thought I would. Dependant on your job dictates if you’d need to tell them. I’ll need to be on light duties and can’t drive currently so I needed to tell my manager.

I had one last year age 49. My stomach was ruined from multiple pregnancies. I wasn't overweight, I just had saggy wrinkly skin, diastasis and a slight overhang on my csection scar.
I had a full tummy tuck with small amount of lipo on the flanks and a muscle repair.
The recovery was tough, for the first week I rested, the second week I rested then by week 3 I was back to "business as usual lite". It was more difficult than I expected. However it was worth it. I recommend joining the UK tummy tuck group on FB. It's quite addictive and it shows the highs and lows of surgery.

I don' t understand this? Women don't put weight on post menopause?

pfftt · 26/04/2023 23:23

@stepMummY1 I mean I work hard and eat healthily. I put a little weight on during peri menopause. I have it all under control. I haven't put weight on for a long while now, my weight is stable and apart from the peri weight gain period, always has been. I'm post menopausal so I don't have any great fears of putting on weight as I might be if I wasn't menopausal yet as that is when women including myself, often put in a little weight. I'm not planning my decisions around hypothetical weight gain. That would be weird. Living with something I don't like instead of doing something that might result in unfavourable outcomes if I put in weight in the future.

As for putting on weight AFTER the menopause, it's a fact,as you get older, you need less calories. The hormone drop also means most women put on abdominal fat. I worked in the NHS clinical role, heavy,I had 3 months off. I only told my best friend and a very few family members what I was having done. My certificate was carefully worded, truthfully but not sounding like a fancy plastic surgery that was for vanity.

Mimileo1993 · 18/10/2023 19:21

What was the pain like?

Mimileo1993 · 18/10/2023 19:28

Wow and what was the pain like? Also where did you get yours done?

Maighnuad · 03/01/2024 15:25

I am based in Ireland and going in Friday for a Tummy tuck and muscle repair - yipes

toomanyleggings · 03/01/2024 15:31

I had one done in the uk. The whole thing was absolutely hideous. I actually successfully got medical compensation for it. I’ve got a fairly high threshold for pain ( 2 babies naturally) and have had other things done but nothing prepared me for the muscle repair pain. It was like all my organs had been bound internally. I cried and cried, begged them to take my binder off thinking it was that. It wasn’t. I didn’t walk straight for 6 months and I still have back pain 5 years later. If you put weight on you put it on strangely as well. Mine goes all on my back. Unless you’re one of these extreme weight loss people I don’t think it’s worth it.

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 04/01/2024 08:22

I'm so pleased with my results, which I had done in March 23.

Yes it bloody hurt and took ages to get over, just rest as much as you can.

I have kept the weight off as it cost a lot to get done so I am careful

I'm going back to Turkey on Monday for arms and inner thighs

Vicy3234 · 17/04/2025 13:32

Hi
I had one before, they cut skin between belly button and bikini line and tighten muscle underneath, so I had flat tummy but was left with big scar, like 2 times CS scar, name of clinic was Look younger clinic and their website look-younger.net
