Please help me!!! I have several hoodies from different brands and they all just feel stiff and loose their softness after a few washes… are there any out there that actually stay proper nice? Or am I washing them all wrong… 😂🙈

These are not budget friendly suggestions, but I have hoodies from both Vivienne Westwood and Ganni that have stayed beautifully soft and in perfect condition with multiple washes, I always wash on cool, reshape and then dry on the radiator and haven’t gone wrong yet. Colours have stayed very true black, and there’s been no bobbling. Also a couple of Carhartt crew neck sweatshirts that have washed beautifully.

I used Persil pods, with some scent boosters thrown in and the Dettol Laundry Sanitiser in the drawer (which is for making sure clothes are properly clean when washing on 20 or 30 degree washes).

Thank you @YouWithoutEnd! might have to look at increasing my hoodie budget by the looks of things! Mainly have some Super dry and Abercrombie ones and they just feel like sandpaper… 🙈

I put anything with a tendancy to go crispy in the dryer on cool for a few minutes and it softens them up nicely.

Reiss garment dyed hoodies stay really soft. Im currently quite obsessed with them.

updin · 27/04/2023 15:49

The only answer is your dad's old hoodie that he bought second hand in Penrith in 1998.

ImAvingOops · 27/04/2023 17:40

I have done really soft sweatshirts from Victoria's Secret, whose softness has survived my washing skills. Maybe try there for hoodies?

Spanielsarepainless · 27/04/2023 17:44

Lazy Jack's. They survive regular 40C washes and are soft. Lovely colours too.

ichundich · 27/04/2023 17:45

They stay soft if you wash them as wool with wool detergent.

OxanaVorontsova · 27/04/2023 17:50

Cashmere from M&S has lasted years

Love this. So true!

DysmalRadius · 27/04/2023 17:54

Bamboo hoodies!! I have some from weird fish that I wear all the time and they are super soft but have ruined all other hoodies for me.

Nitgel · 27/04/2023 17:55

2nd Reiss, mine is lovely and soft still

ashamed1235 · 27/04/2023 17:59

I like Hari and the Gang, got mine from Etsy.

roseopose · 27/04/2023 18:00

I like the fleece ones from sweaty betty, they wear really well.

Madamecastafiore · 27/04/2023 18:00

Sweaty Betty Lux hoodies are good, not stupid expensive.

Cantonet · 27/04/2023 20:30

M&S Cashmere hoodies are very soft but very small fitting, so size up.

DarlingCoffee · 28/04/2023 05:29

Scamp and Dude hoodies are thick and soft

Yes I'd second this - just 5-10 mins in the tumble dryer and it seems to soften things up really well. I do this with towels too. I then line dry or airer indoors.

As it's such a short time and the clothes are still quite damp when they come out, I've never had problems with shrinking ( but don't forget and leave until fully dry, as then they may well shrink).

Totally get the hoodie struggle. I found this brand, https://mongolife.com/collections/stoner-hoodies that stays soft after a gazillion washes. It's been my go-to for ages. Pro tip: wash on cold, skip the dryer, and they'll stay cozy forever. I hope it helps!

I think knitted is the way to go. I have a few knitted ones but my favourite is from Sainsbury's. So soft and drapes so well.

As for sweatshirt type material I've got a few Brakeburn ones that are still very soft. They're also long-line (mid thigh) so I love the way they look with leggings and boots.
