Comfortable strapless bra 40dd/e

I can't find ones that don't dig in round the wires/straps. Doesn't push my boobs so far up they look like a balcony and/or look like something from the 1950s cone boob era. Back straps that don't fall down or crumple up making the middle aged back fat ever more prominent, or cups that constantly need pulling up 🙄.

I used to have a few non padded minimiser style strapless bras and they were ok. Cannot find anything similar.

Recommendations are needed so I can wear my strapless summer dresses, jumpsuits and halterneck tops please.

I hate wearing bras (lockdown was bliss) and i tend to wear support tops unless my clothes really do require a bra.

Are you sure your size is correct? A 40 DD is a very large back and relatively small breasts. Does that sound right?

giggly · 23/04/2023 22:09

DD is small breasts😂😂 it’s really not, I’m a 42 DD and I can assure you they are massive

Lol they're not small. I've got 38e bras but it's to tight in strapless. Ain't no small boobies on me.

Bravissimo ALL the way. If you have one near you go for a fitting. I'm a 34G and have some brilliant bras from there

Iwantmyoldnameback · 24/04/2023 00:37

I''m a 38G and was so desperate I actually went to Rugby and Pellar and they sorted me a Freya. Generally I wear Bravissimo bras.

Blueuggboots · 24/04/2023 02:01

Yep, go and get fitted at bravissimo.

Snugglemonkey · 24/04/2023 02:58

I am interested in where you have seen 1950's style come job ones? I wear vintage clothes but struggle with this in an E cup.

StarlightLady · 24/04/2023 13:04

I'm a 36F and never found a practical strapless bra. For me, when the occasion arises, it's a case of pretty colourful bra straps on view or bra less depending on the top.

That’s my point - you very likely need a smaller back and much larger cups - have you measured ?

Then you’re likely wearing the wrong size and need a smaller back and larger cups
Have you measured?

i'm 40DD sometimes 42DD, yes been measured and my boobs are anything but small!

BitOutOfPractice · 25/04/2023 08:10

I am of the opinion, that will not be shaken, that a comfortable strapless bra simply does not exist.

A DD is only a 5” band to bust difference https://www.booborbust.com/cup-sizes-its-easy-isnt-it/

its really not that big

Bravissimo for a fitting. Strapless bras fit weird and you never end up in your normal size. They also have to take into account your boob shape not just size.

40DD is a v odd size - massive body with small boobs. Are you 100% sure on the sizing?

FurAndFeathers · 25/04/2023 08:31

Another useful site https://thebetterfit.com/breast-size-comparison-side-by-side/

DD is “average-medium size”

cup size is always relative to band and 4-5” on a 40-42” inch band isn’t very much!

FWIW I have 34H boobs and am a size 14 and 5’10” tall
So reasonably large boobs but still not a huge chest despite tall frame.

it’s really common for women to increase their band size instead of their cup size when sizing up - it doesn’t work and is what results in badly fitting uncomfortable bras.

I wear a DD and my breasts are tiny: I just go braless rather than wear a strapless bra.

Unless you’re around a dress size 20, I very much doubt that a 40 back size is right for you. And if you are a dress size 20 then a strapless bra is going to be a difficult assignment - but not impossible. Bravissimo would be your best best.

AnnaMagnani · 25/04/2023 08:52

Even at a dress size 20, I could fit a 38 back. 36 depending on the bra.

bookmarket · 25/04/2023 08:55

The wonderbra with the 'hands' shape in the inside was comfortable for me. I'm 36 E. Sizing is not accurate though in them so you do need to try them on to find the right fit.

Hard agree from me, especially the bigger boobed you are.

StarlightLady · 25/04/2023 10:08

@BitOutOfPractice - Exactly! My thoughts entirely, hence my earlier comments up thread. Gravity gets in the way. I still think the best options are a pretty bra or no bra.

ninjafoodienovice · 25/04/2023 10:21

I'm a 34FF and have to agree that a comfortable strapless bra does not exist. I have a couple from Freya and panache and do wear them with a favourite strapless summer maxi dress but I get nice red welts generally where the bra has dug in.

I agree with you. My knees were so sore when I wore one I couldn’t get upstairs to bed that night.

Haffiana · 25/04/2023 16:12

A 40 back strap is about a clothing size 22. A 40DD/E means you are a size 22 with small breasts. Yes, really...!

If you are not this size you are almost certainly wearing entirely the wrong bra size. Were you measured in M&S by any chance?

It would be worth getting measured by a proper lingerie shop - even John Lewis will do. The correct band size and the correct cup size will make all those things you describe disappear: - Back straps that don't fall down or crumple up making the middle aged back fat ever more prominent, or cups that constantly need pulling up.

I have size 38 E strapless bras and they don't work well. they dig in and the cup size is too big. But with straps this size fits fine. I'm 18/20 with waist and big boobs.

How can I be a smaller back if the 38 band on strapless digs in?
