Anyone else? No tuck short length tops for wide trousers/ skirts.

I hate tucking things in as it bulks out my waist area. I don’t like longline tops as they accentuate my stomach and hangs off my wide shoulders.

What I’m looking for are neat short (but not cropped) tops or cinched in tips to wear over ruder jeans/trousers and skirts. Everything is so long and shapeless.

It can’t be just me?! Help please!

I too hate tucking in, I feel i could take all tops to have them shortened but it would cost to much, I can't find anything on the high street, only in h & m did they have some cropped top, but on me they came too short , please if you find some, let me know.

I like bubble hem tops for this - I have a couple of new ones from Next

I know exactly what you mean OP. The assumption seems to be you have to tuck in a close fitting top to make wide leg trousers work. I’ve never seen so many skinny rib tops around.

I managed to find a short, fitted plain T-shirt in Zara that comes in a range of colours - I don’t need to tuck it in and it meets the waistband of my high waist wide leg trousers and jeans. BUT it’s probably designed to be cropped on an average height person (I’m 5 ft).

A lot of shorter length tops seem to be boxy and whilst that can work if you’re tall, it doesn’t work on me.

I feel that wide leg trousers are mainly made for the tall and v thin. I’m a size 6-8 and they make me look almost square! Not v flattering but I’m still wearing them.

Op you do know the hacks for tucking tops in? There are several of them. The simplest is to use a hair band to ruche your top into a 'tail' and you can tuck the tail under at the front or down into a waistband. Or at the side or back of your t shirt. This looks so much neater then the normal tuck. There are several more elaborate ones using a coin & a hairband. Plus one to button up shirts to make them shorter.

I feel your pain. I'm okay in winter when I can wear a fitted jumper, but really struggle otherwise. I look awful with things tucked in. I've even been wondering about trying to find a sleeveless 'body' thing that I can then wear something open over.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/04/2023 16:33

I do use the bobble and button hacks, but even so, they can still look too bulky.

Floisme · 23/04/2023 16:37

I've chopped a couple of inches off jumpers that were too long. Everyone tells me they'll unravel but so far they never have. Admittedly I wouldn't do it to anything expensive.

Look at clubforty.claire on Instagram today. She's showing a brilliant way to shorten your t shirts neatly.

I love the Kemi Telford one you just posted op.

I have some t-shirts from M&S which are a shorter length. They aren't very exciting though.

@Cantonet thanks! I had a look and it’s clever but a bit if a faff. I’m a teacher and I literally have one minute to nip to the loo and no mirror!

Come on shops- please give us some more fitted tops!

Thanks @MargotEdithAgnes I’ve got the black one and wish they had other colours as it’s great! I’ll take a look at M&S . X

I've recently re-discovered Benetton for tops. They have loads different colours and styles.

Cantonet · 23/04/2023 20:38

@ohfibonacci oh dear, I can see your point.
