Serum irritating skin

I've recently bought the L'Oréal Hyaluronic serum for day and Retinol for night.

Since starting them I've been red and patchy on the cheeks in the morning, though it fades through the day.

I've given the retinol a break and continued with the Hyaluronic in the mornings. I've just discovered a big dry patch on my jawline. Doesn't feel dry just looks flaky and peeling.

I'm not sure which is the culprit. Any thoughts?

Do you put it on damp skin before your moisturiser?

Try putting on moisturiser first, and just use serum once then leave for a few days then slowly use more often until your skin gets used to it
