We have a quite formal wedding coming up in June, and 12 yo Dd has nothing to wear.

She likes jumpsuits, but would consider a dress.

We have had a couple of long, fruitless shopping expeditions, and we need help!

Dd is quite tall, too tall for age 12 children’s really, which is what most shops seem to go up to.

She might be a women’s size 4 or 6, fine for trousers, but she has no curves yet, so all the women’s dresses we have tried on have bagged or gaped in the chest area and round the armpits.

When we have tried girls age 13 dresses, they have been too wide and slipped off her shoulders or gaped under her armpits.

Wedding has rather traditional church element with ideally not bare shoulders (but tbh if we find something that works she can just wear a cardigan in the church).

Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m considering saying she should wear a plain t shirt and pretty skirt, but she is mortified at the idea.

I have had things from Next for my DDs for weddings. They are also both tall and slim. Lots more online than in the shop. For the fit we just have to see if the outfit works if it is baggier or shorter and try lots on.

Something like this? Comes in a few colours, i know the model is younger but it goes up to age 16 and would look lovely at a wedding

If she liked any of the outfits she's already tried, could you buy it and have it altered?

WhereTheWaldThingsAre · 21/04/2023 20:48

That’s quite nice actually, Penguinlove! We went to a big Next, but didn’t see that there.

I'd try French brands. DD is only 6 but is tall for her age and slight for her age and by far the best fitting clothes she has are from continental brands. You could try Cyrillus, Vertbaudet or Petit Bateau which have UK websites.

DD has agreed to wear this to a wedding we are going to in a couple of weeks. It's 100% man made fibres but it has the effect of making it look silkier than it is and therefore smarter.

Thank you!

Dd really likes the green jumpsuit, so we have ordered that and the black floral one from Next in a couple of sizes, and hopefully one of them will work.

I remember dd1 going through this stage of suddenly sprouting upwards, but it was during lockdown so no fancy events to have to look smart for.

there might be something appropriate in oh polly there size 4 would fit iM sure. My DD never fitted kids size 13 ever. She was tall and slim size 4 snd 6 much smaller. Misguided amd new look were good as was hollister. Quiz do some size 6. I also used to get bits at the markets. It is difficult.
at risk of being told of shien and pretty little thing will prob have something

My DD went to a wedding at that age and she wore a jumpsuit from Lipsy (via next children’s dept). She had a cream cotton jacket and ballet pumps and then added her converse once the formalities were over.
