Dress for dinner help pls!

I have just read a thread where someone was asking for ideas- so I thought I'd try as you are all so helpful!!

DH has been invited to a sports event through work. I can't go, but there's a dinner afterwards which I can go to. It's 'jacket and tie or suit'. It's in June, and the drinks bit will be outside, followed by dinner. I need a dress. I don't wear dresses much and I'm crap with shoes (which is why I usually wear trousers). My job is very casual.
I'd rather wear flat shoes/nice sandals with it than heels.

I'm about a 12, though boobs about a 14. V neck/scoop neck much better than high neck, and no halter necks. Must be able to wear bra. Don't mind showing leg/back. Not too low front. Tummy a bit podgy too...

I'm mid 40s, and suit bright colours- pink/red/green. Happy with navy but want to avoid black. Not orange or yellow or brown. Not sure about patterned, but might consider.

Budget- probably up to £100, maybe stretch to £150 if I could wear again for things.

Any ideas? I used to know what suited me, and then having kids meant I actually had boobs, which threw me having never had them before!

Got to feed kids, so I'll probably return tomorrow.
TIA

A simple navy dress with no frills, below the knee will be extremely versatile for other events. Spend as much as you can on a neutral plain dress you feel really good in that you can wear again and again. I have a stunning black full length evening gown I've had for 12 years, and worn so many times. Just update shoes and accessories as fashions change.

What length do you prefer? Midi, maxi, knee?
Would you do bandeau or one shoulder if you could wear a strapless bra?

Love this pink colour

Thank you!
@MavisTheMonkey not sure about the green, love the pink- happy to try strapless bras- if they work. I just know that braless isn't an option!

Good quality navy is def in my thinking.

Not sure why, but I think bandeua rather than one shoulder- maybe because I think one shoulder might be lower (bra wise?)

Have you considered a jumpsuit?

mdinbc · 21/04/2023 23:17

Ditto to go for jumpsuit, or even a nice suit in a bright colour. There are plenty now in red or pink, then you could use the pieces separately for other occasions. Zara has some nice separates.
