Does anyone use lipstick as blusher?

And if so, how do you apply it?

I have tried and failed to find a cream blusher I like but it occurred to me earlier I have lipsticks in every shade imaginable.

I do all the time, I just tend to not use one that’s too sheer or balm-like. Lisa Eldridge always does it, and if it’s good enough for her…

Meadowflower2023 · 20/04/2023 19:42

I use my lipsticks as blushers these days too, I have bought so many powder ones that aren't right... too matt, too shimmery etc, just decided one day to try a lippy and never looked back. Perfect colour match, buildable and glowy. Go for it girl!

Mrsjayy · 20/04/2023 19:45

I think my skin is to old for powder blush it looks kinda meh on me.

Cream blusher? Never actually heard of this! Any reason you don't use a powdered one with a brush?

I agree- I wouldn't use the same lipstick as a blusher at the same time. I'd assume you use your finger on the lipstick and try to rub it over your cheek to spread it around?

I would imagine she doesn't use powder blush because cream blush looks far more natural and much better after the age of about 30

TattiePants · 20/04/2023 19:48

I’ve never tried it but keep meaning to but I do have a couple of cream blushers that I love. There are loads of multi purpose lip, cheek and eye products now.

summersoonsurely · 20/04/2023 19:50

Powder blush just doesn't suit me as I age. It's just too 'powdery' on my increasingly crepey skin.

My nan told me she used to do that just after WW2. Cosmetics were expensive, scarce.

There are loads of high end creme blush and lip, sometimes even eye. 3 in 1. Multi tasking, day to night, cuts down on handbag space.

MadisonAvenue · 20/04/2023 19:54

I’ve done this on occasions, it works well and seems to last for some time on the skin.
I’ve been using Benefit Cha Cha Tint recently though which is for both and that’s working well for me.

Yes I do, I think it looks good. You can actually get products that are 'lip and cheek' too so it's definitely a thing. I usually dab my finger on the end of the lipstick then dab it where I would apply my blush.

Same.
I have done this since I was a teenager. I tend to prefer a cream blusher or balm to powder, and lipstick is much the same thing, although more pigmented so go lightly.

Nottamug · 20/04/2023 19:59

Yes always . Just don’t forget to blend in on your cheeks…yesterday I did it in the car on way to work and forgot to blend it in . Work colleagues had a great laugh 😂

summersoonsurely · 20/04/2023 20:55

I have visions of Alice Tinker/Geraldine Grainger blending needs but I'm going to give it a go.

Thanks

I've done this for years! Got very odd looks from a mate recently when we were at a party, having a natter in the loos while I was touching up my makeup by smearing lipstick on my cheeks and blending it in

LadyOfTheCanyon · 21/04/2023 05:12

Yup, been doing it for years. Currently using a L'Oréal Les Nus shade which works great on lips and cheeks.

vivaespanaole · 21/04/2023 08:02

Several professional make up artists i follow on instagram do this regularly. Id say go for it!

pickledandpuzzled · 21/04/2023 08:28

Great on the eyes too. I have a couple of almost contour colours that work in the eye socket.

It warms everything thing up, much like a wash of bronzer but without that fake brown thing!
Perhaps it's bronzer for people who wouldn't usually tan!

Cream blush is very definitely a thing!! IMO it gives a much better and more natural finish than powder.

My favourite ever cream blush was from Mac. Unfortunately they discontinued the colour i liked and didn't do another one I liked (although writing that i've realised i haven't looked for so long i should have another look).

i used lipstick as a blusher when we were at an overnight do in the middle of nowhere and I'd not packed a blusher. It looked fine.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 21/04/2023 09:04

I do (a Wycon lipstick that's the perfect shade and about to die on me, sob sob) - gentle dab or two and pat with fingertip to blend.

xogossipgirlxo · 21/04/2023 09:18

I do. I draw a line (like a warrior 😂) and then blend it with my finger.

summersoonsurely · 21/04/2023 09:55

Tried it this morning... I chose a lip colour that's quite natural on me and I'm pleased with it. The only thing I would say is it's much harder to blend than I imagined.

Any tips?

I think( but it was a very long time ago ) we mixed it in with a bit of vaseline went on easier .

I don't wear makeup very often but I'm out at the weekend I'm going to try it. I've some lipgloss with a wand that I'm going to try it with.

Between this and the trainers and trouser suit thread I sometimes wonder if Mumsnet is a time travel portal and some posters are messaging from the mid-90s.

How have you got this far in life without knowing about cream blusher! 😂 Powdered blusher had a different finish to cream.

I have the Charlotte Tilbury pillow talk lip and cheek glow and I love it.

QueenBitch666 · 21/04/2023 11:28

I do at a push 👍
I use a Doll 10 cream blusher and it's easy to apply and gorgeous
