Does anyone use lipstick as blusher?

And if so, how do you apply it?

I have tried and failed to find a cream blusher I like but it occurred to me earlier I have lipsticks in every shade imaginable.

I wouldn't use them for both.

HelebethH · 20/04/2023 18:25

My nan told me she used to do that just after WW2. Cosmetics were expensive, scarce.

CC4712 · 20/04/2023 18:27

Cream blusher? Never actually heard of this! Any reason you don't use a powdered one with a brush?

I agree- I wouldn't use the same lipstick as a blusher at the same time. I'd assume you use your finger on the lipstick and try to rub it over your cheek to spread it around?

brightbrightsun · 20/04/2023 18:27

I have. Works well. Just dot it on cheeks and blend in with fingers or brush if you prefer. If you wear powder it goes over the top.

brightbrightsun · 20/04/2023 18:28

No issues with using same lipstick for lips.

OhSmitty · 20/04/2023 18:29

No, I use bronzer instead of blusher. My oily skin wouldn't thank me for putting lipstick on my cheek.

Barleymilk · 20/04/2023 18:34

I do,I also sometimes use it as eyeshadow too( sounds repulsive as I type it out)

SuperSange · 20/04/2023 18:37

I do, but I don't like the colour on my lips, so it's just a cream blush really.

Crimblecrumble1990 · 20/04/2023 18:38

Yes I do, I think it looks good. You can actually get products that are 'lip and cheek' too so it's definitely a thing. I usually dab my finger on the end of the lipstick then dab it where I would apply my blush.

Incognito19 · 20/04/2023 18:38

Lipstick works!
quite a few brands do a crème/liquid blush - laura Mercier do one in a tube, NARS do one in a pot and Clinique to their chubby stick version.

Bathtimebubble · 20/04/2023 18:40

My mum does and always looks great, just a dab on the cheeks and blend. I doubt anyone’s cheeks are any more dirty then their lips so can’t see a problem
She’s been doing it my whole life and isn’t old now so it’s not an old lady thing

joan12 · 20/04/2023 18:42

Yes absolutely, love products that do double duty. I have a clarins cream blush that actually looks like a lipstick except chunkier, called my little blush, and a stila one called convertible colour, which is for both lips and cheeks.

This is an "80s" thing I used to do it on a brush from the stick . Actually might start doing it again.

SpringLobelia · 20/04/2023 18:44

I do. i just dot it on the cheekbones then blend.

joan12 · 20/04/2023 18:44

To apply both - dot on with fingers or from the tube in the case of the clarins one, then blend

whatamess100 · 20/04/2023 18:44

my nan always did this, she looked great

Squirrelsnut · 20/04/2023 18:50

I do it and I also use an ILIA multi-tasking product for lips and cheeks. It works well as your face looks more harmonious.

RockGirl · 20/04/2023 18:57

Trinny London do cream blushers...

Yes I do, it gives a dewy finish. I don't like powder products.
Use fingers. I think the first make up professional I saw do this was Bobbi Brown.

summersoonsurely · 20/04/2023 19:03

Thank you for so many responses so quickly!

It's not that I can't find cream blushers.. I can't find one I like the colour of..

I think the comment of being more 'coordinated' is really interesting. Makes perfect sense to me.

Sorry, the word was 'harmonious'

Yes - recently discovered mixing a bit of concealer or thick foundation with a good smudge of lipstick on the back of my hand and it works fabulously! Really glowy

SufferingCarlos · 20/04/2023 19:20

Yeah if it looks good on your lips it's probably a good shade for your cheeks too. I love blusher it, my skin is so sallow without it I look like a corpse without it. Gives a healthy glow. Just make sure you start with a tiny amount and build up if needed.

I have tube lipsticks I might try it like that. ..

Trinny London's "Lip 2 Cheek" is exactly this - cream blush and lipstick in one.
