Dress for Dad's funeral

I've been looking for a dress for weeks for DF's funeral for weeks and can't seem to find anything- starting to panic. Poor Dad died last month, too young, after a long battle with an asbestos related cancer. I'm going to be speaking at his funeral, and honestly, I look a complete mess at the moment. The funeral is in early May.

I'm early 30s, size 20-ish, big boobs and 5 foot 3. All the midi dresses in the shops look comically long on me. I haven't been taking care of myself at all for years and I'm trying to make changes, but it's hard. I just want to look presentable on the day, and my SAHM wardrobe of leggings and stretchy tops isn't going to cut it.

I don't care if it's not black, he certainly wouldn't have cared. Just a relatively muted colour and preferably a pattern. I don't really care how much it costs- up to £150 is ok. I've been to the local large shopping centre so many times and found nothing. Any help in finding things to order and try on would be so appreciated.

Sorry for your loss

All these are under £100 at John Lewis. I chose a Finery one for my parents funeral

It's nice in black and purple too, maybe this and some good trousers. I like this top. Dresses can be tricky. I'm so sorry about your Dad.

Try searching for “black tiered shirt dress”. I’ve just googled and there are lots in various price ranges.

I always find a shirt dress looks more together and a tiered dress is usually quite flattering.

Sorry for your loss. Hope the funeral goes as well as it can. Have you got shoes sorted?

I'm sorry about your dad.

Have a quick look at Seasalt, I'm a similar height and size and their petite works well for me. They've got their spring/summer colours out, so possibly not muted enough, but do look. (My dad's funeral was a hot & sunny day so there was a lot of black/ navy/ grey and white which all looked nice.)

I like that dress @waltzingparrot - with a black cardigan maybe .
You could also have a look at Next online as they stock clothes from many other manufacturers and you can order and return what you don't like .

Sorry for your loss @EvenLess. I hope the funeral goes well for you .

I wore black trousers and a black and white tunic top for my dad’s funeral. I don’t wear dresses normally and I didn’t want to be feeling uncomfortable and self-conscious on top of everything else that day.

I bought a Martha dress from Boden for a funeral. Hangs in the right places and hid my stomach ! I’m a petite too.

I wore the 'Phoebe' dress from boden for my dad's funeral with a jacket. I think it's this one www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/crew-neck-jersey-dress/sty-d0607

Oh wow, thank you all so much for your suggestions. This is a great starting point for me to do some ordering!

I’m very sorry for your loss.

This dress from M&S may be worth ordering. A lot of people seem to have bought it for funerals. I wore it to my dad’s. I needed a slip under it. I’m a bit taller than you but not much and I think it was fine. It’s comfortable as I didn’t want to be tugging at my dress.
