Why are my nails peeling?!

For a couple of weeks now, my nails (which I wear pretty short) have been sort of peeling longways... it's hard to describe but it's like they begin to flake and peel off, so that the remaining nail is really thin. I'll try and attach a photo to show the areas where my nails have thinned.

No dietary changes, no environmental changes, I only drink at the weekends, eat a balanced diet, don't have a job where my nails get regularly soaked and use nail polish rather than getting gels or acrylics.

Can anyone suggest a remedy? they feel so weak and soft and polish looks awful because surface underneath is uneven!

Hideous claw hand pic but the white bits are where the nail has peeled...

I get this every few months, it lasts a few weeks and then they go back to normal. I think it could be hormonal. When the nails are weak I just keep them a bit shorter. It’s very annoying though!

I am struggling with this problem at the moment too. Sally Hansen Miracle Cure (blue bottle) helps a bit but the index fingers and the ones next to them still split. I have looked into supplements but they seem to be for hair growth too which I don't have a problem with at all. I also never know whether to cut them right back when they split or let the 'split bit' grow out.

Thanks both @happyharpy78 I'm currently using Sally Hansen diamond strong or something like that to try and keep them as strong as possible so they don't peel further...

I’ve got this too!!
I’ve cut them as short as I can and they’re still peeling. Never had it before.

I get this when I drink less milk or eat less yoghurt. If I up my dairy intake they get much stronger. I think it’s a calcium deficiency.

I get this if my thyroid results drop. I have an underactive thyroid and whenever it happens it usually needs I need my meds renewing

I don't think it's specific to thyroid though I think it can just be a bit of an imbalance or being a bit run down etc

Age/menopause?

Oh I also have an under active thyroid problem. My bloods are due in May… I wonder if it’s that?
