Plus size summer dresses for holidays

I'm going on holiday soon and need to re-vamp my wardrobe. I've put on quite a lot of weight over the last few years and whilst I used to like wearing shorts and t-shirts during the day on holiday, I now find them very uncomfortable. So I'm wondering whether summer dresses might be better for me. The problem there is I'm really not a dress person and don't know what shape or style would suit me.

I'm now a size 22-24 with a huge tummy which I'd like to hide as much as possible. What style of dress would be best for my size and shape please? Preferably high street, not expensive. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

I'm a similar size and New Look have some nice midi/maxi dresses at the moment. I've not shopped there in nearly a decade but had a look on impulse and liked quite a few. I prefer the ones with a shirred bodice and a flowy skirt/waist.

Yours also have some nice ones.

Joules! Some lovely ones there.

To add.... I think if you've. It really been a dress person before, the best approach is just to try loads of things on.

It's going to be partly about what's flattering on you, and partly about what you feel comfortable in.

As an example, I know I 'suit' maxi dresses (or at least can pull them off better than other lengths!), but it's just too much material for me and I don't feel comfy in them.

Are you able to order loads of stuff and do comfy and relaxed try-ons at home? Or go round loads of stores when you're not in a rush?

I'm size 20-22 and found (looking back at photos) that often more fitted dresses in the waist, fit and flare style looked better, and also found it was best to get more cotton materials than jersey which just sticks to me and look horrible.

Also shorts to go under dresses if you get legs rub !

I have this and it’s lovely, this colour is reduced, the black is £24.99. I don’t care about bra straps, but it also looks fine with a T-shirt underneath. I’ve also just bought a black tshirt dress, not body con, but slim fitting. It looks great. I’m a baggy size 18. Dresses are definitely cooler and more flattering than shorts and T-shirts.

Hi OP have you tried SHEIN? good priced and some of the plus size stuff is nice. I seen a plus sized woman last year on Facebook go viral about her summer dresses and how she styled them and they were all from SHEIN. I wear a 16 and sizes have been spot on for me. Kids sizing a bit small. X

Look for things that hang from the bust and are a relaxed fit. High waistline and fuller skirt are good.
Oversize linen shirt will work over shorts/ cropped pants.

Thank you all so much for your great suggestions. I shall have a look at those websites, Yours, Shein, New Look etc.

Are A-line dresses good for us larger ladies?

A-line dresses are perfect.
