Mascara for VERY sensitive eyes

Having just suffered conjunctivitis in both eyes I need to chuck my mascara.
I have dry sensitive eyes anyway and am wondering if anyone can recommend a good mascara.
Tried looking on the internet but there seems to be so many I've got completely confused.
Also, any recommendations for a nice cleanser for the eye area?
I've tried miscellar water but that gave me bletheritis.
Basically, I'm a mess 🤣 HELP!

I use waterproof l'oreal & the Nivea cleanser that you have to shake.
I have sensitive eyes and I'm allergic to fatty alcohols & my eyes break out if I use something I shouldn't.

The only mascara I can use is this Rimmel Kind & Free (volume & length).

Even better is that it's only £5.99 on Amazon!

I can also recommend the Rimmel kind and free, I've suffered a lot of eye problems but this mascara doesn't cause any.
Can't say the same for the Nivea cleanser above though, that makes mine break out with sty's etc badly.

I have the same problem and have found it very difficult over the years to find a mascara that doesn’t make my eyes red and watery. Lots of mascaras say they are for sensitive eyes but really aren’t!
Liz Earle did a good one, which was then discontinued, Burts Bees likewise. Am now using La Roche Posay’s Toleraine allergy tested mascara from Boots. Not ideal as only comes in black and I’d prefer brown but it doesn’t make my eyes sore. However I’ve just tried Boots website and it doesn’t seem to be in stock at the moment - everything I find seems to get discontinued…

Thanks for raising this, I too have this problem. Nothing to contribute I'm afraid but glad to have the suggestions and I've ordered a Rimmel kind and free, Fingers crossed.

There’s three that don’t cause my eyes to water/ give me a little lump/ feel awful- 1. Clinique- the lengthening one, it’s in a silver tube 2. Roche posay - I’ve been living off this one but can’t wear it to work as it’s gone within two hours 3. No 7 tubing mascara (is called stay perfect and I found it through lovely people on the style and beauty section!) which is wow in that it’s the only mascara that doesn’t land halfway down my face/smudge BUT it’s a bit clumpy :( best of luck op!

I've ordered the Rimmel one. As soon as this bloody conjunctivitis has gone I'll try it and report back.

@sarahh96 I forgot to add, I bought two tubes and labelled them left & right so I use the same one for each eye, so as not to cross contaminate. I also try to keep it to the lashes and not get right down to the skin line. That seems to help.

Estee lauder double wear is the only one that works for me.

What is the name of the No 7 tubing mascara please - I asked for it in Boots and the assistant didn't know what I was talking about.

Following for ideas but I'm considering dying my lashes rather than using mascara after this weekends debacle I look like I've come down of a month long bender my eyes are so bloodshot it's ridiculous ffs ITS MASCARA 😂

@GretaGood it's the Stay Perfect one. Used to be gold tube. They've recently changed packaging. Not sure if formulation has changed.

I've stopped being able to wear mascara except for Estée Lauder's one in a gold tube. Alas I am not willing to pay for tubes of that (was a present). I always had sensitive eyes but after COVID they're much worse.
What makes it worse is...I'm basically goth, so I now can't do my eye makeup 😫

Tubing mascara is the answer. Clinique Lash Power is good but there are other cheaper options too. Search for tubing mascara on mumsnet. There have been some long threads with recommendations recently.
You don't need any eye make up remover to get it off. Just warm water.

GretaGood WhereAreWeNow yes it’s stay perfect and I love it because it stays put and my mascara usually is halfway down my face within an hour but have worn this all day in work without my eyes feeling it at all (they go red or streamy really easily usually) but it is slightly clumpy

NatOrigin mascara is great. Made for eye issues, but a very good mascara in its own right. They do a brown too.

@CanYouSeeMeNow that's a very good idea, I'll do that. Makes perfect sense. Now all I have to do is find a 'lint free' cloth to remove it. Here goes another quest 😩

While we're on the subject, any recommendations for a lint free cloth type thing for removing eye make up?

Lint free cotton pads? Or would a microfibre cloth/pad work?

@CrocodilesCry microfibre is what came up on my search but I don't fancy getting those so close to my eyes. Must admit, I always but the cheapest cotton pads I can so maybe I need to up the budget. Maybe they are less 'bitty'

I saw mascara, eye make, and eye up remover specifically for sensitive eyes when I last went tosee the optician. I think it was called Derm Eyes (I haven’t tried it).

If your eyes are so sensitive maybe the opticians/eye doctor can recommend something (or ingredients to avoid).

If you get a tubing mascara @sarahh96 you won't need cotton pads. You can just use a flannel or a muslin cloth or whatever works for you.

I used to suffer with this. I now have my lashes dyed blue black every few weeks. Game changer.

Very sensitive eyes, contact lens wearer and hay fever sufferer. I swear by Bobbi Brown (I use the waterproof one).

I once tried Maybelline as I wanted to see if I could get away with a cheaper one. I wanted to rip my eyes out. Never again.

Sainsburys do cotton pads that say they're good for contact lens wearers as they don't shed.
