Hot air styler brushes

So much choice out there.

I'm looking to buy a hot brush. I had the Babyliss big hair years ago, the rotating one, but I didn't get past the first use due to tangles.

I have shoulder length fine hair, am looking at the Revlon one step style booster. It has a smaller 38mm brush size which I think would suit my hair length better than the larger brushes. I've also noticed that some stylers now have an oval brush, just to add to my confusion.

Or am I better off sticking to the hairdryer and round brush method.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I keep buying these and they are always shit. Stick to the hairdryer!

PaulaYatesSmile · 16/04/2023 12:26

Thanks @OneFrenchEgg I had wondered if it's best to stick to the hairdryer and brush method. What didn't you like about the hot brushes that you have tried?

I have the revlon, it's not shit, my hairdresser gave me a tutorial in how to use it and I now never use a hairdryer any more. I have a short sleek Bob that needs careful drying and I get ace results every time.

PaulaYatesSmile · 16/04/2023 12:27

@Mxflamingnoravera which Revlon do you have?

I've got the GDH Rise hot air brush. The knack I've found is using it with a LOT of product to hold the style but it does add volume. And I find it easier than the god awful rotating ones that pull your hair!

PaulaYatesSmile · 16/04/2023 12:31

Oh god yes, the rotating brushes! I bought it on the strength of mumsnet years ago. Everyone was raving about it. It just tangled my hair.

I have the Revlon One-step, used to have the Babyliss Big Hair. The Revlon one is good in that you don't get the tangles (btw the oval shape is for getting root volume). However, because the Revlon doesn't rotate, you don't get the same tension on the hair as with the Babyliss Big hair, so I'm not sure it's as good at straightening/smoothing.

Thanks for explaining the oval brush to me.

For me, they've always ended up a wet/damp frizz whatever technique or product. (Curly hair)

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 16/04/2023 12:34

I have the Revlon one. Used it twice. Can't see what the fuss is about it. Need to put it on eBay.

It's a revlon one step for shorter hair.

hopeishere · 16/04/2023 15:43

I have the babyliss. I love it. You need to section your hair and rough dry it first.

33goingon64 · 16/04/2023 16:00

I have the Revlon in big size. I like it and get compliments when I use it but think I should have gone for the smaller one as my hair is only just past shoulders.

CosyCoffee · 16/04/2023 16:26

I love my Revlon one step and never use my hairdryer now. I had a babyLiss big hair and yes, used to get painfully tangled.

MargotBamborough · 16/04/2023 16:30

I love my Revlon One Step. Almost as good as a salon blow dry.

ggbbnn1 · 16/04/2023 16:31

I swear by my airwrap

My hair is just past my shoulders and I would get the smaller 38mm brush. I'm still undecided.

I have the Revlon One Step for shorter hair as well. I was a bit sceptical as I'd tried my mother's (for longer hair) and didn't really like it. I didn't know then that there were ones for different laughter but I saw it on a half price Amazon offer and decided to risk it.
Absolute game changer!
I have a chin length bob, very straight hair and since the menopause my hair has started to frizz slightly.
The One Step leaves it smooth and shiny and after a few times is very easy to use.
In fact I was away for a few days the other week and had to style my hair with an ordinary hair dryer and brush! Didn't look half as good.

Look for a good deal and try it 🙂

PaulaYatesSmile · 16/04/2023 18:39

@Howyoualldoworkme

You sold it to me 😁

Just ordered on Amazon £35. They are currently £50 on Boots so I'm happy with the price.

It's arriving tomorrow.

A little tip; I wrap my hair in an absorbent turban after washing and don't dry it until it's almost dried by itself - much easier that way.

PaulaYatesSmile · 17/04/2023 07:34

Thanks for the tip @CosyCoffee. I have watched a couple of YouTube videos and they both said to start with your hair almost dry

Following! I just posted separately on the Rise as I've seen it on instagram. I have the big hair one but the rise looks great for curls

smileannie · 17/04/2023 09:57

Can’t recommend the Revlon One Step enough. I leave my hair until it is almost dry and takes only about five minutes to get a sleek glossy, salon style result and I’m totally rubbish at styling. I always get loads of compliments on my hair when I use it. Honestly, if I can use it and get good results, anyone can.
One word of warning though, concentrate fully when using it, I didn’t the other week, ended up bashing it into my eye and gave myself a black eye!

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 17/04/2023 15:44

I’ve gone back to my Babyliss as I found the Revlon really heavy to use.
