Hot air styler brushes

So much choice out there.

I'm looking to buy a hot brush. I had the Babyliss big hair years ago, the rotating one, but I didn't get past the first use due to tangles.

I have shoulder length fine hair, am looking at the Revlon one step style booster. It has a smaller 38mm brush size which I think would suit my hair length better than the larger brushes. I've also noticed that some stylers now have an oval brush, just to add to my confusion.

Or am I better off sticking to the hairdryer and round brush method.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I have always had the Babyliss ones and love them. I wait until my hair is almost dry and then use it to give a bit of volume to my very fine, off the shoulder hair.

Ask your hairdresser to give you a quick lesson, mine did and my hair is now salon quality dry every time.

I do my fringe first. Then section it off and do the back then the sides and keep the brush at the roots till it's dry, then move it to the middle and then the ends of the hair (ie hold it in place, don't keep pulling the hair).

Mine is also straight, fine and limp, but dried, it has volume and sleek, my blow dries can last 2-3 days now, I used to have to wash every day. Sometimes I just damp the hair and re dry if I get the dreaded back parting, it works all over again!

Come back and tell us how you got on OP

I have just done my hair with my new Revlon.

It is brilliant, I am so pleased that I took a chance and ordered it.

My hair looks really good, just like a proper blow dry. Very easy to use. I am glad that I chose the smaller 38mm brush as it's the perfect size for my hair length. It's light to use as well.

I would definitely recommend.

I bought the Revlon last month and am pleased with it. I had the Babyliss one but could only do one side of my hair successfully. The other side ended up tangled up.

Farmageddon · 18/04/2023 16:02

I love my Revlon One Step, got it in Boots a few months ago in the sale.
I use it for a sleek and straight blowdry, takes about 15 minutes and I have quite think just below shoulder length hair. I have used it with very wet hair, and it does work, but takes ages so would recommend leaving your hair to dry a bit first.
I don't notice that much difference in my hair volume, but it gives a bit of bounce like a salon blowdry. It's just easier than using a hairdryer and roller brush (would need another few arms to hold them properly).
Before getting it I would have to blowdry my hair (badly) and then straighten it afterwards to take away some frizz, whereas now I haven't used my straightener in months.

The only thing is I would love for it to be cordless, as the wire gets a bit tangled when using it.

@Farmageddon which Revlon one do you have?

I have the babyliss big hair but this Revlon one sounds great

Xarrie · 19/04/2023 07:27

Thanks I've just bought it too

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 19/04/2023 07:42

They are clearly popular - I really must put mine on the selling pages...

I hope that you like it. For me it has the perfect size brush.

I also like how light weight it is and easy to hold.

You need to rotate the brush the opposite way on the other side of your head. The reason the babyliss tangles hair is if you rotate the brush the wrong way.

OP, I can see you bought the revlon, I have it too snd have very thick curly hair and it gives me a salon blow dry in about 10 mins. For anyone who is going to buy one you create the tension yourself, you can’t just passively hold it but need to treat it like a round brush and pull and create the tension (if that makes sense).

I swear by my airwrap

This. Expensive but it’s brilliant, and my blow dry lasts a couple of days.

It’s light and comfortable to hold too - much better than my Babyliss big hair.

violetskypurple · 19/04/2023 09:25

I really love my Babyliss Air Styler 1000, used it several times a week for years and love it. I've just got a Dyson airwrap to try as the Babyliss has finally died

greyhairnomore · 19/04/2023 11:41

Can anyone explain the difference between the Revlon One Steps. ?
There seem to be a few.
I have long , thick , wavy hair.

Hellenabe · 19/04/2023 20:59

Which revlon one suits mid length thick hair?

MaryQueenOfSwots · 19/04/2023 23:12

With the Revlon ones, what’s the difference between the round brush and the paddle brush models? I’m finding it really confusing!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/04/2023 08:42

The Revlon one step has been a game changer for me and my thick, frizzy hair. The secret is to dry it all over with a hairdryer and then finish off with the One Step to style it. It's not a hairdryer and you'll end up with split ends using it as one.

Which revlon one suits mid length thick hair?

The oval shaped original one.

Arapawa · 20/04/2023 10:04

I have Babyliss big brush (or whatever it is called) Have used one for years and have a spare incase it stops working.

@Arapawa if you like the babyliss do look at getting a revlon one step. I was a complete devotee of the babyliss. I have had about 4 in the last 10 years or so (or since they first came out). It takes me approx 20-25 mins to fully style and dry with the babyliss. The revlon is a massive paddle, you can grab much larger sections. Whilst it doesn’t rotate you can create this tension yourself. I find it even easier than the babyliss and hair is done in about 10-12 minutes.

BotCrossedHun · 20/04/2023 11:09

Does the Revlon one do curls and waves at the end like the rotating Babyliss?

SpeckledlyHen · 20/04/2023 11:36

Yes you can achieve that, it is pretty similar but doesn't rotate. Probably best to look at some youtube videos but I love it and it makes my hair look the same as when done with babyliss but in a shorter space of time
