Hot air styler brushes

So much choice out there.

I'm looking to buy a hot brush. I had the Babyliss big hair years ago, the rotating one, but I didn't get past the first use due to tangles.

I have shoulder length fine hair, am looking at the Revlon one step style booster. It has a smaller 38mm brush size which I think would suit my hair length better than the larger brushes. I've also noticed that some stylers now have an oval brush, just to add to my confusion.

Or am I better off sticking to the hairdryer and round brush method.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank you.

With the Revlon ones, what’s the difference between the round brush and the paddle brush models? I’m finding it really confusing!

me too and I’ve googled it! I think The paddles dries straight and you can get a curl with the brush but might be wrong

I think this depends on your hair. I can’t use any kind of round brush at all - it causes hair loss. The GHD one is amazing as it tames my hair - it’s just frustrating that I can’t use it like a normal brush too and the buttons are badly designed as it switches off when you want to hold it.

One thing I found out recently was that a hairdryer with a brush / wide comb attachment works just as well as my GHD brush at taming my hair and it’s a lot less faff. But the effect doesn’t last longer than 24 hours for me.

Is there any one that you can ‘try before you buy’? I have the Babyliss one but it just ripped my hair out, Don’t mind the price if it works. Gave shortish hair if that helps.

Any advice please?

I have the Revlon one and get good results.
However I would be grateful for some advice from other posters , I have found when using it I’ve twisted the wire , can’t seem to untwist it and end up moving my head at funny angles to use it!

Order from Amazon and return if you don't like it?

I think if the babyliss ripped your hair out you were rotating the brush the wrong way for the side of your head. You have to rotate the brush a different way for each side. So difficult for me to explain but if used correctly it should just smooth out the hair. I’ve used one for years and the only time it gets tangled and hair ripping if I rotate the brush the wrong way.

Thank you PP's! I know its me and I am going to see if I can have another go at it because its still at the back of the wardrobe gathering dust!

I am not sure you can order from Amazon - try it and then send it back potentially with some of your hair all over it - can you?? I know you can do this sort of thing with QVC

I have one and its ok but I have very thick hair and it would take me a year and a day to dry my hair with the hot brush alone. I wrap in a microfibre towel for a few minutes then blast with the hairdryer and finish off with the brush. It does give a better end result than the dryer and round brush for me but it's a bit more faff.

@Wenfy which GHD brush were you using? Does it blow out hot air?

This sounds a bit sad but what really helped me was watching some youtube tutorials on it. I literally had the big hair in my hand and didn't have a clue, watched some tutorials and just blow dried my hair and it was pretty perfect first time. My mind was blown! :-)

I use the Glide hot brush. It doesn’t blow out hot hair it’s pretty much just for smoothing and making your hair presentable.

SpeckledlyHen · 21/04/2023 11:45

@Tracker1234 This is quite a good tutorial and she explains which buttons to use when so the brush rotates the correct way and doesn't tangle your hair.

However, I must say I still find the revlon one step much easier to use for the same results (but not the curls) which is a smooth blowdry with body.

I have fine hair and its hard to keep a curl!! I have the Revlon oval brush styler and havent used a hairdryer & brush since!! Its been a gamechanger for me!! I also have an IAMFINE 3 in 1 rotating curler and its also changed my life!! I got it from Temu and i paid £28 for it!! Its a steal for that price as i had credit to add to the £40 price tag..which is cheaper than Amazon!.. and has also made it much easier to curl due to the rotating barrell!! Its great!! I just recieved today and it gives me the option of 3 barrel sizes!! Amazing!! It also has features like a timer so you dont burn your hair which other expensive brands do not!! Am chuffed!! So..for a blow out thats smooth and less tiring imo and the 3 in 1 rotating curler..am looking forward to taking the faff out of styling my hair!! Good luck with yours!!👍🤷‍♀️
