I think one of these would benefit my hair. Please could I have recommendations of good ones?

watching with interest as all the "silk" pillowcases I find are 💯polyester 🙄

Binfire · 13/04/2023 20:12

Mine drive me crazy, they slip off the bed in the night and knock my
drink off the bedside table! It’s happened several times now and once I was charging my phone very near the puddle of water.
Im not convinced they make any difference to my hair either, it still looks like a birds nest in the morning.

I love mine- makes hair less tangled. There is a rating for silk which you need to find

John lewis

I bought one from Amazon for my daughter as she moves around so much at night it was matting sections of her very fine wavy hair every night (and she hates brushing her hair!) - it was a game changer!

Ours are from Slip. We love them!

I especially like that they have zip closure ones. The cheaper ones we had previously constantly slid off the pillows.

They're super expensive, but they've washed well and lasted for years. They're still in fantastic shape. I got navy blue and the dark colour hides any potential sweat stains or such.

I love mine. I have long thick hair and it's no longer a rats nest. I previously got mine from eBay, direct from Vietnam. My last ones were from Aldi when they had them as a specialbuy, they are fab, I'd definitely recommend, I think they were a 2 pack for £25.

potatowhale · 13/04/2023 21:29

Or get one that's half cotton half silk - they don't move round so much and are cheaper

Nothingtoseehereagain · 13/04/2023 21:31

I have the m&s ones, they've washed well and still look good a year on.

Childhoodnostalgia · 13/04/2023 21:35

Mine ends up on the floor in the night, I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve slid off it or I get fed up and hurl it.

itsnotmeitsu · 13/04/2023 21:38

I've been using a silk pillowcase for several years. My current one is 100% silk from Marks and Spencer. I only got rid of the previous one because the dog bled on it. It may be expensive but it lasts. Silk bedding is definitely kinder to older skin than cotton. I'm sure it helps my hair, but it definately helps my skin stay uncreased.

hartof · 13/04/2023 21:46

I got one from aldi, it's not actually silk but feels like it. I hate how big it is on my pillow and how ugly it looks on the bed but I no longer wake up looking like Hagrid and my hair isn't snapping off from being backcombed by the pillow. I know it works because there's been occasions I've slept without it and my hair has been awful.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 13/04/2023 22:29

Thank you everyone. I just went for my cut and colour and my hair was not in the best state so I'm considering this along with turning my hair straighteners down. Good to know they work mostly

I'm using a 100% silk pillowcase from Lilysilk.
To be honest I haven't noticed any changes in my hair/ skin/ whatever, however it's a lovely pillowcase, smooth against the skin and it doesn't slip at all like some PPs have mentioned.
I should warn however that the color of the pillowcase needs to be chosen really carefully, mine is sort of creamy coffee color and it shows each and every stain from your face cream, any hair product you have, any drool from yourself or your toddler... It doesn't absorb stains like cotton pillowcases do. I am not going to wash my pillowcase every single day so I have to do with having to sleep on a pillowcase obviously stained (the stains look black against the coffee color, really unsightly). Don't know which color would show the stains less, maybe white...

The satin ones from Boots work fine. Definitely keeps my hair much smoother.

Top tip, PR or affiliate link person above:

If you're going to link dump, maybe target a fresh post and don't drop a product shot in. Also, sixty bucks doesn't travel on a thread about Boots & M&S's offerings.

Nothingtoseehereagain · 17/10/2023 18:25

Ah, Mumsnet HQ got there ahead of me!

MoiraRosesOtherDaughter · 17/10/2023 18:29

I have a Philip Kingsley trichologist. I asked her this exact question. She said it's not worth it, really.

Just sleep with your hair loose.

Silk pillowcase may have benefit for the face though.
