I'm invited to royal enclosure- never been before. Fascinators not allowed and hats must be worn.
So I'm thinking of wearing this dress - and a black or black and white hat. Would.this be OK and can anyone suggest a hat or hat hire shop. I can spend more on hay than dress which is zara!

I didn’t think you were allowed to show midriff for ascot, are you sure the dress is appropriate?
im currently looking for a dress myself so have been reading the “rules”.

lovely dress though!

I have t been to royal enclosure for a few years but I don't think you can wear that dress. There's quite a few rules on eg length, width of straps and I'm pretty sure no midriff

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 13/04/2023 13:57

Yes, sorry - no midriffs (and they do check). Lovely dress though!

SaltyGod · 13/04/2023 13:59

I'm afraid you can't wear that dress, no midriff allowed.

Also no halter necks, sheer fabric, strapless, thin straps, or anything above the knee.

For hats you can try charity shops, eBay can be good, borrow from a friend or good old John Lewis have some simple ones for not too much money. You can add your own extras if you want to jazz it up.

Delatron · 13/04/2023 14:03

I had a panic last year. I’d been to all the shops, John Lewis - very boring, lots of fascinators.

I found a local lady who made and hired them out. Hiring is a good option- if you google you may find someone near to you. But the shops were rubbish!

I don’t think you can flash midriff sadly but I love that dress!

TheFlis12345 · 13/04/2023 15:12

The dress would not be allowed, they are very strict. I would try and hire a hat if you can, you get a few decent ones in department stores but nothing as interesting as you will find at an independent.

Anxiodogo · 13/04/2023 15:31

I might hire dress hat and everything then

For hat hire I can't recommend

www.thecotswoldhatclub.co.uk enough 🙂

Hiring a dress is a good idea. I nearly got one from HURR which has a great choice but I left it too late!

Too late for this year?

Sorry that dress wouldn't be allowed in Royal Enclosure. I used to work at a high end retailer and we had to guide customers attire for Ascot/Henley Regatta etc. Basically it is all very modest wrt shapes/hemline etc but where you can make a statement is with patterns/colours + shoes/bag/hat although again making sure you follow the rules for each venue.

Cathyattie · 13/04/2023 19:21

Perhaps you could get the dress altered easily at a tailors with a beautiful wide wrap around silk-like sash / belt (sorry, not describing it very well).

Cathyattie · 13/04/2023 19:26

Just adding to previous idea, could also colour match hat and sash, e.g. cream and navy hat, cream dress with navy sash belt.

Ooh no. I tried like a week before I was so disorganised. You’ll be fine - you just book the dress for a certain date to be delivered. I haven’t used it but they have a great selection

Pretty sure this lady has the royal enclosure badge from 2022..... I was browsing hats and saw this dress with midriff on show....

The dress code for Ascot is really clear - midriffs must be covered.

I’m a hobby milliner. Depending on where you are in the country you could try the following who are excellent - Leanne Cairns, Jenny Roberts, Justine Bradley Hill, Trudy Comfort, Michelle Clarke, Katherine Elizabeth. Most of these rent hats as well as sell. Cotswold hat club are great too.

Quick query! I’m breastfeeding and planning on bringing my pump to Ascot on Saturday. How large a bag are you allowed to bring? This is the size bag I’m hoping to have with me.

I don't think it matters at all about the size of your bag Smile
