Denim Maxi Skirt - which one…

Following on from other thread about alternatives to dress / trainers - wondered what others thought are the nicest denim maxi skirts out there - specifically which colour - pale, mid or dark denim?

I have the Stradivarius comfortable one. Love it and very affordable. I prefer a mid or dark denim at the moment. The only thing I would say is it has a front split and it can go a little high when your walking about.

I’ve done a deep search online for one & so far haven’t come up with a decent maxi one unless over £200!!

I bought a midi one (pale denim) from Great Plains and a grey midi from Uniqlo. I’m still on the lookout for a maxi one but waiting to find one when more hit the high street shops…

My personal choice would be pale denim dress & white trainers. I don't wear maxi dresses as I'm petite & they don't do anything for me at all as much as I love the dresses. I'm soooo jealous I can't wear them lol.

Sorry meant skirt not dress🤦🏻‍♀️

I want to avoid front split and was thinking pale or mid blue for the summer - although I imagine would get good wear out of a dark on through into the autumn.

Top tip @Isthatarealname thanks for the link - absolutely love the look of the front slit but that wouldn't suit me unless I wore with black tights and boots

Watching with interest.

Have just got back from John Lewis Liverpool where dd1 and I were on a denim maxi skirt mission. Nadda. Not a single one to be found.
☹️

I bought a mid wash skirt for £19.99 in TK Maxx that is by Massimo Dutti which is A line and has the slit at the back and metal detailing at the front of the waist band. I have spotted them in Primark which are straight style. I had tried to find one in a charity shop knowing that it was a future trend in the autumn with no luck. Mango have them too.

Ooolaaaala · 12/04/2023 16:34

I have worked out that I need the maxi rather than midi - and I think I like the mid blue colour that someone linked to on the other thread (sosander).

Just spotted in my localish Primark a black denim maxi with pockets so a cargo denim skirt basically for £20

The best denim maxi skirt is the one that is made for you, to your specifications and measurements, from a denim of your choice. (I would go medium to heavy weight, with medium being the preferred fabric.) Of course, it won’t be as cheap as some of those mentioned, but it will last you much longer, probably a lifetime unless you wear it every day (in which case, you might want two) and bring you satisfaction every time you wear it.

To avoid a split, you’ll want a stretch denim, or possibly an ordinary denim cut on the bias.
Cut on the grain, you will end up with a stretch skirt that might need a little split somewhere (back, side, both sides) for movement. Alternatively, a bias cut in denim will have both vertical and horizontal stretch. It will fit your form naturally as it falls from the waistband as the widthway stretch accommodates you hips & bottom and skims slightly inwards from your thighs without being restricting. In production, the skirt is left to hang, unhemmed, for a period of time to allow the fabric to drop to wherever it wants to drop before it is hemmed, and the hem will have a slight, natural ripple and space for you to walk without the need of a split. I had such a skirt once, before I passed it onto a friend. It was gorgeous.

Let me know if you want more details.

I’ve got a great button-through one from Boden.

I would need to be shown.

Interested in what body shapes this suits. I have a belly but 5ft 6 but I need something flattering!

BetterCallMe · 15/08/2023 09:43

I bought this one, or a similar incarnation, earlier in the year. Spilt at the back, medium wash, very comfy and casual:

I also have a Stradivarius one with the split at the front, also comfy. Both of these are maxi on me, I'm 5ft2". I think both of mine are unhemmed, so can be easily chopped for shorter legs :)

@Bottomofsmughill , I like it. Somewhere I have several midi skirts from the 1990s. I remember people telling me I looked frumpy in them, but I still wore them.
