Where do people buy glasses from these days? Boots and Specsavers have nothing I like at the moment and I need a new pair... anyone have any experiences (good or bad) of buying glasses on line?

I’ve used Glasses Direct and am happy with them. You can order four pairs for a free home trial, it’s quick and easy to send them back. Once you find the pair you like, you add your prescription and they send them out within a week. They have a 3 month return period - it might be longer but it’s at least 3 months. I’ve returned a pair that had my prescription included, and they will refund, but they are very slow at this, think it took about two weeks. There’s always a discount code available too.

I got my last pair online at BlooBloom - you can pick out five different frames and they'll send them for you to try at home for a week, plus I think they donate a pair for each pair sold. The service was terrific too.

Plus I really liked the glasses (I had the Icon ones)

Thank you both, I shall check out those sites The only thing I worry about is them being fitted correctly as when you're in person they measure to see where your pupil sits and then how the lenses should be made. Is there a way of doing this with the on line companies?!

I have used Bloobloom in the past and been very happy with them.

Regarding the measurements any optician should be able to provide these as part of their service no problem - Specsavers have done so for me in the past - though they will, in all likelihood, advise you against ordering online. You submit these measurements when you place an order.

The actual fitting and adjustment of the arms can be more challenging to get done, Specsavers outright refuse to adjust glasses they have not sold, I found a local independent who did it without fuss for £10.

Cubbits are great and reasonably priced. If you're in London, they have a few branches. Staff are really helpful.

I got my last pair in Asda.

Regarding measurements- the PD pupil distance can be measured at your eye test if you ask, but it needs to have 2 less for reading rx. But varifocals are measured according to the frame you choose. It can’t be done accurately any other way as major part is pupil distance from bottom of frame.

I went to Rae and Rae in York, even though it’s a couple of hours drive away. Superb service and some brilliant designs.

Asda are by far the cheapest. I was told this by a bloke who repairs glasses he said he doesn't know how they make them so cheaply ! £80 for one pair £120 for 2 pairs .The price you see includes all types of lenses - super thinned , varifocal etc . The others all add on for different types of lenses and go up and up .

I have 9 pairs of glasses from Asda, all different types of frames, some are sunglasses, but all of them are varifocal. It's not that Asda make glasses cheaply its that all other companies over charge, in my opinion anyway.

I have had no issues with any of the frames, started with a £40 pair to see what they were like and have purchased a few pairs of the designer range.

Give them a try they are well worth it

Asda. Cheap and cheerful and look fairly decent.

I always get mine from Glasses direct. I've never paid more than £30 for a pair with a few of the added extras

I just go with the average for pupil distance and have been fine! Probably not advised but it works for me. (This is an option when ordering online from Glasses Direct).

Glasses direct for sure. I got 2 pairs for less than £90 in their offer and they're great.

I need to order some prescription sunglasses from there soon

I’ve been loyal to Ray Ban ever since I started wearing glasses full time.
My last three pairs have all been black frames, but I have my eye test next month and think I want to go for gold metal!

Also a big fan of their Clubmaster sunglasses with green tint. Get the same every time.

I’ve done the BlooBloom home try on and really liked them, but I don’t trust myself to measure the PD correctly and don’t want to risk going with the average. Maybe one day I’ll venture to one of their stores.

I go to vision express at my local Tesco.
