In fact,if you could tell me what shape my face is, that'd be a start! I always thought I had a heart shaped face in my youth, but the more I look at it now, the more a potato that's been squished in at the eyeline emerges... see awful photo attached. Does a figure of 8 shape face exist? 😫😄

I'm 56, overweight (triple chin when I smile!) and desperately need a haircut. Hair is currently just below shoulder length, no fringe. Insta seems to be guiding me towards a "Karen" (apologies, but I can’t think how else to quickly describe it) which I really don’t want! In my thirties/forties I had a long-layered shoulder-length cut with a wispy fringe which really suited me - not quite a Rachel, but not far off - but I don’t know if it'd suit me anymore given the weight gain. I am intending to lose the weight but I need a haircut now, not for future me...

Hair is fine and lifeless but lots of it. Doesn't hold product well so the style needs to be "cut in" if that makes sense.

Please don't suggest anything front to back asymetric that elongates the back of my head, bitter experience has shown I'll look like an alien...

Thank you if you've made it this far!

I think a fringe would suit you. It can slim the face, but not a heavy fringe to start. My hairdresser graduates minr all down the side of the face, a blunt effect and slight layers. I'd only have an inch or two taken off the lengths. Just my opinion :-)

I think this hair style shape. You don't look like a potatoe! You've got a lovely shape.

If you're a potato, so am I & my hair description is same!
I haven't changed my hairstyle for years, which is terribly dull of me but it is hard! Mine is just shoulder length with some shaping round the face.
I was going to suggest the 'long bangs' or wolf (?) which is what I think I should do but, of course, have not.

OP you do have a heart shaped face ! Maybe it's not quite as petite as it was when you were younger but that is the same for most of us I would think. Look at hairstyles for the heart shape online and adapt slightly for yourself - what you think you could style yourself. You have a lovely face - embrace it.

Stand in front of a mirror with an eyeliner pen and draw around your reflection onto the mirror. Step back and this will show the shape face (then you'll need to clean it off 😆)

I too think you still have a heart shape, but like me, are overweight. I agree with something to soften the forehead. Not a blunt- across fringe, but maybe a longer, sweep to one side. I have a part to the side (not down the middle) and my fringe goes from the part, across my forehead to the other side. Hard to explain, but when longer, I can tuck it behind my ear, or pin back if I don't want a fringe at all.

Thank you everyone - especially for the nice comments about my face shape (I'm still seeing potato...)!

I agree that some kind of fringe is needed, but definitely not a full one (had one of them a couple of years ago and basically looked like Lord Farqhod) so I will do a bit more googling for heart-shaped face haircuts and see what the hairdresser thinks is achievable - many thanks! 😊
