An unexpected first date - what to wear!

Hi everyone. I know it’s a first world problem but having a small panic!

I have come home to my parents for a few weeks over Easter, was talking to a very nice guy from Hinge and think I have a date this week! I live about 3 hours away atm but am looking to move home asap - he knows this. I think I’ll suggest a day time coffee/brunch and walk on Saturday or Sunday.

Problem 1 is I didn’t take any ‘nice’ clothes with me other than the basics. I have two nice-ish jumpers, blue cropped straight jeans, black skinny jeans and Vejas. A long black puffer and a light trench coat.

Problem 2 is I haven’t dated in about 3 years so very nervous and have no idea what to wear!

Problem 3 is that I am in the Highlands so shop options are very limited. I’m going to panic online shop tonight and hope it arrives in time, but not sure what kind of thing I should look for? What would the wise ladies of s&b wear on a casual first date?! Any help would be much appreciated! 😬

I am 30, size 8/10 and 5ft8 if it makes a difference.

Thanks in advance x

Not sure if others will agree but outside the box here... take pics of a few items and ask for his preference? :)

Slimjimtobe · 10/04/2023 21:51

You could totally wear the black jeans and nice jumper. Could you your hair done / new lipstick to dress up that way ?

Eatentoomanyroses · 10/04/2023 21:53

God no don’t send him outfit options. Too much pressure.
Jeans and a cute blouse, dressed up with some jewellery would be my suggestion

toucaninjapan · 11/04/2023 03:21

Agree with @Eatentoomanyroses , a cute blouse with jeans and nice accessories should do. And yes don't send any outfit photos to him, that will only look desperate

Hi @Kittykat98 first date yay!
In this weather i'd probably go with a full sleeve bodycon dress with some heeled trainers.
Have a lovely time 😊 x

Noooooooooo

No matter if you're in NYC, Paris, London, or the highlands, a pretty jumper and jeans with a nice scarf, a trench coat, and flat boots or smart trainers is the perfect outfit for a coffee-and-walk first date. (A hat and sunglasses too, if the weather requires!)

I think I'd pick that even with full access to my (extensive) wardrobe. Especially the flat shoes. No one likes walking with someone who can't keep up due to an impractical shoe choice.

Have so much fun on your date!!

Merrow · 11/04/2023 04:21

Jeans, nice jumper and trainers sounds like a perfect coffee/ walking outfit?

What the hell? I’m sure I don’t have to say ignore this OP. 😬

Anyway, I agree with jeans, jumper and nice trainers for a coffee and walk date.

Hope it goes well. 🤞

Avatartar · 11/04/2023 04:54

Jeeesus do not ask him what to
wear - if he asked you you’d freak out! Wear what’s comfortable and suitable for the terrain- yes to new lippy/ scarf/ something near your face -nice nails, handcream, light perfume -

Weatherwax13 · 11/04/2023 05:02

"Jeans and a nice top" is the rule for a first date anyway so I think you'll look perfect in what you have already.

What the actual fuck? Setting the tone nice and early for his majesty daddy dom to dictate what she wears? What is this the 'secretary' film? 😂
Should she ask him what underwear he likes and what colour? Maybe he can also tell her what hairstyle?

CoughyAndCake · 11/04/2023 05:57

Op, you're in the highlands. Your first date idea is extremely casual. Wear the clothes you bought. Be comfortable. Men can tell what you're working with even in a sack.

Kittykat98 · 11/04/2023 17:34

I have actually asked a guy what to wear before! In a different life, when I was younger and had a different Tinder hook up date every weekend 😂

Skinnies, nice top and heels used to be my go to for dates but I’ve lost my way a bit in terms of fashion over the last few years and am trying to pick it back up now.

These are the jumpers I have so I’ll just wear one with jeans. My hair is in dire need of a chop so I’ll do the millennial soft curl to distract. Thankfully I took most of my make up and the tiny village Boots has an OK selection for emergencies.

He spends most of his time up hills so I don’t think he’ll be overly bothered anyway.

An unexpected first date - what to wear!

DO NOT DO THIS!!!!

Congratulations on lining up a date. You are totally overthinking the clothes thing. Anything suitable for the weather will be fine.

The chances of him remembering what you wore, so long as it's suitable for the weather and conditions for your walk, are vanishingly small

Enjoy.
