What's the best fake diamonds

Right, as long as I have been alive, I've had a dream of buying myself a gorgeous diamond ring. I'm now in the financial position to do so, have been to shop after shop, got close to buying but at the last minute, just cannot do it. A friend has a 15k ring which now on her finger just isn't worth it. I want the sparkle, I want the look but I just don't want to wear that amount of money. I've boringly lost the draw of having it, but I would still like the sparkly stuff. What's a good fake diamond company?

“No one is looking at a QVC ring and thinking "that's a lovely diamond", it might be a lovely ring there's some really pretty stuff they do, but they are quite obviously not real diamonds when you see them in the flesh.”

Actually I was out the other day and someone said ‘oh I’m so jealous of your diamond ring - wow that’s amazing’ - it was a £100 QVC ring - a simple square cut ‘diamond’ on a real gold band. It looks and sparkles like the real thing (imo). I wear it 24/7 including the shower. I love it.

@Shinyandnew1

here a pic, hard to get a good close up but I’ve sandwiched white gold between two titanium rings to show you, there is a slight difference it looks more like platinum but slightly lighter. It’s a personal choice really, platinum and titanium are not coated as far as I’m aware so you won’t get the yellow tinge you get with white gold and plated white gold, I think plated white gold will eventually rub off as it’s just sprayed but I’m not an expert. I had the same experience as you with a different company, forever for love, her designs are lovely but she was taking weeks to reply to me and kept getting me mixed up with someone else, I lost confidence in the end and wasn’t prepared to give her my business. My advice would be if you’re not sure then listen to your instincts and don’t go ahead, you can’t go far wrong x

Thank you! It’s funny-even your two titanium ones look slightly different shades!

Fingers crossed he will respond…!

@Shinyandnew1
yes they do on the pic but not in person, sorry I think that’s my rubbish photography skills and bad lighting, not remotely helpful to you! Happy shopping whatever you decide to do x

If you have saved and can afford it I'd buy the real thing. You might fool others but you'll always know you don't have the real deal on your finger. My engagement ring is a real diamond and like poster up thread has gone up in value, not that it matters as I won't be selling it. I don't like fake Xmas trees either.

MiniTheMinx · 14/04/2023 15:22

Have you considered looking at auction houses.....Denhams usually have some good jewellery, sometimes they have some fantastic rings. My advice would be buy real, buy second hand and try to buy the best you can afford for the least possible!

I don't know anything about lab grown or fake, do they retain any value?

If you want a real gem that looks like a diamond without the price tag you could look at white sapphires. I have one, apparently they are going up in value and are becoming scarce.

Also have a look at Gemporia for plenty of sparkle! I've had some beautiful pieces from there, and all of their stones are natural (though many are treated) - they don't do moissanite for that reason. I've got a stunning white topaz ring and also some lovely coloured stones. You really don't have to spend much either. I'll post some pics in a min.

Green & purple amethyst pendants
White topaz ring & blue quartz ring
All well under £30!

Lab grown diamonds have gone down in price even in the last few years and probably won't retain their value. Having said that selling a mined diamond it's often difficult to get a good price for it and unless it's big, or extremely high colour and clarity, usually won't get back what you paid. (Valuations for insurance are what it would cost to make a new, like for like, item but that's completely different from the resale value)

Interestingly, I get a lot of compliments about my ring.

"That's a lovely ring"..."Wow, can I see your ring"..."that's beautiful" etc.

Not once has anyone ever referred to the fact it's a diamond. They just say ring. Just an observation.

Not a brilliant photo but the one next to my wedding ring is a QVC Diamonique in 14 carat gold (QVC are USA based so 14ct is popular ) with 7 stones , the setting/claws are rhodium . You cannot see the sides but there are tiny stones in the base

Unless someone had a jewelllers loupe they couldn't tell
The ring on my middle finger is my grandmothers , over 100 years old . 5 diamonds . One looks a bit wonky almost grey .

The big stones from Diamonique do look too bright to pass off , too clear . But the settings can be nice .

Excuse the cats' rump muscling in

This was a gay guy who went on to say how much he loved diamonds and that diamond rings were his obsession. That’s why he singled out the ‘diamond’.

I got a beautiful, sparkly Moissanite ring from Doveggs https://www.doveggs-seattle.com/ a couple of years ago. I wear it constantly and it still looks brand new. Cost about £90.00.

That website is amazing! Thank you for sharing.

A friend of mine wears stuff from Tru Diamonds. Cannot tell the difference between hers and my real diamonds.

Aren't tru diamonds real? I thought they were real but lab made so no natural diamonds but still real

Andarna · 16/01/2024 13:11

Moissanite is more sparkly and prettier than a diamond. If it's looks you want, go for that.

HermioneWeasley · 16/01/2024 13:13

Go for moissanite set in gold or platinum. Lots of sellers on Etsy. I found one on there and am delighted with it

Brightandbubly · 16/01/2024 13:16

Look for second hand/ antique diamonds
