Black cardigan alternatives?

User1435 · 08/04/2023 19:41

I'm in my early 40s and I'm struggling to find a modern alternative to black cardigans. I wear them over dresses every day for my quite conservative workplace. I also feel the cold so blazers never seem to do it for me (too draughty around the chest!). I'm a bit overweight post kids and have a disproportionately big tummy so I have tried jumpers but they can be very unflattering. Can anyone out there please save me from myself?! X-D

Carry on wearing them? I have a smart black cardigan that is a bit more fitted than a normal cardigan and I often get people asking me where it comes from

Just wear what makes you comfortable

I love cardigans but agree they can look a bit passe. Mostly I don't care but when I want to look more modern/stylish I wear:

  • a blazer, these can be very warm if the right fabric
  • something with a squarer neckline similar to a bomber
  • something more cropped. I think cardigans look at their daggiest when they are a bit loose and hit at the hip

Thanks so much all of you! I'm delighted and relieved that I've been so slow to change that I'm coming back into fashion! 🤗Ditto all the 90s stuff in shops, I think some of my (much too small) dresses count as vintage!

I'm loving the squarer neckline jacket idea so I will be off into town for a search. Sounds like a great idea! I tend to only buy things that stop at the waist as I'm so bottom heavy so I'll continue to do that. Cheers for the explanation! 😄
