Hi everyone,

Been going through a rubbish time and wanted to try picking myself up by maybe buying a few little bits in an attempt to feel a bit better about myself.

I don't have any skincare routine at all, but I do wear makeup so any nice make up or skin care recommendations would be great.

Or any practises /self care tips in general which you've been loving which I could try to implement myself at home perhaps .

Thanks!

The Sanctuary bath range at Boots is nice. I got a gift set in the Christmas sale and love the shower gel. I’ve bought a pouch of it at TK Maxx for under a fiver as it’s cheaper than buying a new bottle.

What's your age & skin type? Even a basic moisturiser makes a world of difference to how I feel about my skin and makes me feel like I'm looking after myself.

Late twenties. Skin is dry (flaky currently but not always flaky ) and very very dull looking. There's no glow / freshness to it at all. Hence why I always wear make up when I leave the house xx

I would start with a good cleansing balm or cream to use at night with a cloth. If you like neroli and orange blossom, Emma Hardie cleansing balm is perfect. Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser is also very good and comes in a few different fragrances. Or Elemis cleansing balm, they too have a few different fragrance options.

A mask you can do once a week to feel like a refresh! I love Beautypie for masks, but I know there's a subscription. Maybe someone else will recommend a good un...

Emma hardie is lovely - smells incredible and is really nourishing AND there’s lots in at TK Maxx at the moment - you might be able to get some online

Buy a nice highlighter. Stila and Trinny London have lovely non-sticky ones that give a real lift to your face.

I love a sheet mask (I really like the Garnier ones) and also the Origins rose clay mask. A nice bright coral lipstick for spring/summer is always nice too

For taking your make up off, I recommend Clinique Take The Day Off. It really does feel like you’re doing just that and I find it really soothing. Feels amazing on your skin. Love it.

I've never used any Trinny make up. Which highlighter is that? Xx

If You do the match2me you’ll get a colour that suits. I am very fair and use Candlelight, it’s a beautiful non-sticky texture and gives a lovely glow.

The Right Light | Highlighter

The Right Light is a sublte luminiser. Neither too white nor too shimmery it gives a gentle natural luminous glow to the skin.

A lovely cleansing balm to take your make up off?

Then I Met You do a really nice one

What about a facial oil to give yourself a massage you can look at videos online or buy a gua sha.

I love aromatherapy associates oils too, I wear them on my best and they smell divine

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 10/04/2023 07:28

I always feel better with a good hair cut, nail polish on fingers and toes and a spritz of perfume and lipstick even if I’m not going out.
Also like to start the day with a shower with L’Occitane almond shower oil and hair wash.
Lashings of hand cream on at night too.

MintyCedric · 10/04/2023 12:06

Clarins facial oil is gorgeous. I never use it without getting compliments on my skin and I’m nearly twice your age!

Aromatherapy Associates also do some lovely stuff including skincare.
