Transitioning to grey - another one

I've searched and read a lot of threads on the Journey to Grey but I'm still wondering...

I'm not even sure I'm ready but I'm close to throwing in the towel on dying my hair this honey brown. I'm 48, I have long wavy / past shoulders hair - my hair to be honest it's nice. It looks good.

But I'm sick sick sick of the eight week "roots" trip. I'm quite brown around the sides and back but I think I'll have serious grey streaks on the top if that makes sense.

Should I get highlights/lowlights into the roots, is that my best option? I just dread that big block look of dyed hair and natural grey and brown hair ...

How did you come to the decision? I'm brooding away on it, but equally I know once I'm at the hairdresser she'll offer to touch up my roots and I might just give in!

Sorry, total first world problem... but asking for your thoughts...

When I was ready to bite the bullet, my hairdresser put lots of highlights in so that the colour was randomly dispersed through my very thick hair and this really helped to minimise the dreaded straight line of grey as it was growing out. Admittedly the last months were helped by lockdown.

I also found what helped was wearing my hair in a sort of relaxed half up do so that my parting was half hidden.

Good luck.

Thanks @RobertsRadio.

I keep remembering when going to the hairdressers was something exciting, like I'd wonder oooh, will I try something new? But now it's all maintenance, maintaining a look of "no grey here, nothing to see" and I'm getting sick of that. Does that make sense?

I'll ask my hairdresser about the highlights/lowlights option, it does sound like the best way forward. I am thinking I'd need to have a bit of Chunk of grey grown in - a few months, to start it? - I'm at that eight week point now when I'd ordinarily get to the hairdressers.

Bizarrely because I'm away for a week, I'm going to an old hairdresser for a cut, where I used to live in my old town. It need a trim, and that removes the pressure to cave and do the roots as normal!

Thank again for replying. I know it's silly I just feel like I want to and I'm not sure what's holding me back!
