What jewellery to wear with 50s rockabilly style dress

Have just cleared out my wardrobe and found a dress I’ve not worn for years which I think I might use for an event I’ve got later this year.

it’s basically the same as the one in the pic but black rather than navy with a red mesh petticoat and belt. Will add a red bag and shoes but have no idea what to go for in the way of jewellery.

Was wondering about plain medium size gold hoops…or something more flamboyant?

My style has become non existent over the last few years hence being a bit lost.

Day to day wardrobe consists of variations on harem pants, jeans and fitted t shirts…and trying to get my groove back!

@Niftythrifter That’s fun and exactly the kind of think I was thinking of but wasn’t sure if it would be too much.

The event is a literary festival so I doubt anyone will give a monkeys!

I’ve been through a lot of life changes in the last few years and I’m just trying to get in touch with and express my more flamboyant/eccentric side after years of motherhood and corporate life!

@waltzingparrot ooh those are great too.

I think I’m going to give the outfit a trial run somewhere first, just to see how I feel about it.

’full hog’ is definitely how I feel on the inside 😁 but it’s been a looooong time!

I was going to suggest something from Tatty Devine but see a pp has beat me to it Grin

This would be fab but not sure I’ve got the kahunas (it’s a crime fiction festival!)

I've just asked my husband (who is heavily into Rockabilly) and he suggests a neckerchief tied at a jaunty angle as this is what the ladies wear. Hope this helps!!

Niftythrifter · 08/04/2023 09:59

@MintyCedric do it! That would be perfect for a crime festival! You could go down the name necklace root that Tatty Devine do but get something related to crime thriller on instead like “thriller queen”.

Ooh loving these ideas!

I was nervous about posting on this thread because Style and Beauty are probably not words that would spring into mind when someone looks at me these days!

Very glad I did now 😁

Love this! Just go for it. Hope you feel good

Not sure if this is Vivian of Holloway? I have the pencil skirt version of the dress. Not work it for a while but I used to wear a wide elastic red belt with a statement bow buckle and big chunky plastic beads and red heels....

theWarOnPeace · 08/04/2023 19:03

Chunky plastic/acrylic types for that kind of style, I love the idea of a bright red something or even an emerald green? Honestly you’re going to a crime lit festival and finding yourself living your best life and wearing a rockabilly dress, do what you bloody want! The heart necklace is great.

HippyChickMama · 08/04/2023 19:24

I'd go for something like this:

And maybe some red earrings like this:

Or plain pearl studs

MintyCedric · 08/04/2023 22:54

@Kdubs1981 it was cheap as chips on eBay for my 40th birthday…I turn 48 later this year and I haven’t worn it since!

I have got my eye on an elastic belt with a bow!

@theWarOnPeace Thanks for the encouragement 😁

@HippyChickMama I love that tattoo style necklace…will definitely be browsing that website later!

I was really taken with the idea of an anatomical heart earlier, but the Tatty Devine necklace is a bit out of my budget currently.

I’m quite crafty though and have managed to get a mould on Etsy so am going to have a go at making a pendant and possibly matching earrings with polymer clay or resin.

Now I just have to sort shoes as will probably be walking to and from the venue and it’s over a mile…thinking red sparkly converse type shoes maybe?

Oh interesting! Is it Harrogate? CrimeFest? Are you on a panel?

MintyCedric · 08/04/2023 23:59

@determinedtomakethiswork

Yes it’s Harrogate…I’ve been trying to get there for 4 years.

Sadly not on a panel, but hoping to pitch my first novel so maybe next year!
