I am going to a formal dinner mid-April with a smart (black tie) dress code. I am 6 months pregnant, only 5 foot and looking very bump-y already. The combination of trying to dress the bump, find something nice (I'm pretty hopeless at fashion anyway) and find something suitable for temperamental April weather is proving too much for me. Any inspiration? I so far have been getting away with loose non-maternity dresses but I guess this will depend on the fit. Happy to consider anything but ideally I wouldn't spend more than £100-150 on a dress. Thanks in advance!

Tiffany Rose is perfect for what you want but a little out of budget. Maybe keep and eye on the sale? I got my wedding dress there as I got married when 8 months pregnant and sure I got in sale for around £100

fluffyreindeer · 05/04/2023 16:55

@Bananasinpjamas4567 wow, I'd not heard of that brand before. There are some seriously pretty dresses there. A little out of budget I agree but I will have a browse.

I had a lovely long stretchy dress when I was pregnant and find them more flattering as opposed to flaring out over your bump

It was high street I'm sure I'll have a look in a bit at the label if I can find it

HappiDaze · 05/04/2023 17:14

You could find a plain black skims type of dress then wrap a lovely wide patterned piece of material as a belt above the bump

That's essentially all mine was really

And wear a little cardigan with it if you want maybe in a colour to match with some of the pattern of the wide belt material

Vinted has some Tiffany Rose dresses might be worth a look!

fluffyreindeer · 05/04/2023 17:45

Thanks @HappiDaze - it would be great to know what brand it is.
I've just tried on a few of my pre-pregnancy floatier dresses and have resigned myself to the fact that I probably do need a maternity style!

I've had a look but I cut the label out at the back and the other label just says it's hand wash only

I remember now that I bought it from a local shop that's sold pregnancy clothes that has since shut down.

They didn't make it themselves though.

My youngest is 13 but Seraphine was my go to for event wear when pregnant with him.

They have some lovely stuff within your budget (and some much more expensive stuff too - ignore the first few items on the page!)

And this but the material might not be fancy enough but it'll still look great

Have you thought about renting? I'd take a look somewhere like forthecreators.co as it specialises in maternity clothes, and means you're not splashing out on something you'll just wear once.

HappiDaze · 05/04/2023 18:32

Or this chiffon one

Thanks so much for the replies, I'm feeling a lot brighter about the event now!

@Katrinawaves - Seraphine looks perfect. I've just ordered a load of their dresses from John Lewis and will have them to try on by tomorrow evening!

@wand3rlust what a great website - I hadn't even considered that maternity clothes could be rented. I have a few weddings etc over the next 3 months so will definitely be giving forthecreators a look.

@HappiDaze some lovely suggestions there! I will check out H and M as well. Thank you so much for taking the time to look out those dresses. I was feeling a bit panicky about what to wear, feel like I've got plenty of options now Smile

Might not be black tie, but have a look at Clary and Peg. Designed to be worn during and after pregnancy. Good second hand!!
