Styling advice needed desperately!

Hey,

I need serious advice on how to style myself. I’m getting so down about the way I look, I’ve lost myself a lot since having kids and I have no sense of style at all.

Sounds daft to some but I want to feel like I fit in. I used to love following fashion trends (the ones I liked) but now I just can’t make anything work for my body. I go to baby groups and take the kids on days out and am distracted by my low self esteem because I just feel like I look awful all the time. I see all these stylish moms and I just want to be them so bad!

I have a whole new body to work with since having the kids, I’m a size 10-12, but large busted (32FF) and have a big mom pouch that just doesn’t budge no matter how much weight I lose.

I can’t wear low rise bottoms because of said pouch, but can’t wear high waisted either because it causes a muffin top effect. I literally live in leggings and baggy jumpers and with the spring/summer coming I want to feel more confident.

so how do you dress a mom bod without feeling mumsy?!

Can you try sizing up in the high rise jeans to hold your stomach in? You could also try some light control underwear underneath to see if that helps you in terms of your confidence. In terms of jeans then there are loads of styles out there so try loads on, if you aren’t adverse to Primark then the denim section is worth a browse and it’s all reasonably priced.

@Niftythrifter thanks for responding!

I’ve tried sizing up and they end up baggy around my crotch which isn’t flattering! And I wear high control Spanx literally every day 🙈

it’s not so much jeans, I’m not a massive jeans person anyway it’s just in general I have no idea what to wear or how to style myself!

we had plans to go out today and I didn’t go because I didn’t feel confident enough if anything, so I need to fix it

My advice would be to book an appointment with a stylist in John Lewis who will be able to give you loads of ideas and you won't have to buy anything from there but will have a better understanding of what shapes and colours you need to choose .

Who's style do you admire? What body shape do you have? Height? I know this sounds a bit old fashioned bit maybe try body type quiz and go from there. I'm a goblet shape so hold my weight on my boobs and tummy, but have long slim legs and okay arms. So I try to wear v necks or low necks, I show my legs off in tight jeans or short dresses, and I need to create a waist so smocked tops amd dresses are a no no. A good bra is must as it gives your clothes a good foundation.

Second the JL styling session in giving you some ideas that you can take away to guide you on everything.
