Oily eyelids

I look so much better with eye-shadow on, I just use quite a neutral colour but it makes me look a bit more polished. However, within a few hours it’s all shifted so it’s just one darker line along the eye-crease and the lids look quite oily.

I’ve tried both cream & powder shadows with similar results, and have also tried the Urban Decay eyeshadow primer which does improve things but the eyeshadow still slides off, it just clings on for maybe an extra hour or so!

Does anyone have any tips? Do the more expensive eyeshadows stay on longer? Mine are all mid-range Boots No7, L’Oreal etc.

I have a similar problem - I use Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in "Bone" as a base, then cheaper high street eyeshadow (at the moment ancient Revlon). Results are OK, not amazing as in it stays on all day, but I not longer get the crease of colour you're describing .

If you put a bit of blot powder (I use the Mac one) over your eyelids and do so using a brush before applying eyeshadow, you should find this will help.

Barry M lid lock is the best eyelid primer product I’ve tried. Is much more affordable than the Urban Decay version and much better imo.

Use a primer.

Eyeshadow slides off me in about an hour. I've tried it all. Most of the ladies at the cosmetic counters say to use a primer and a fixing spray but I've done all that.

The best I can do is a primer then a cream eyeshadow then a powder (same colour) and loading a lot on, then it might stay for most of an evening

Thanks everyone!

have you tried using a mattifying primer on your lids to control the oil?

Sammysquiz · 07/04/2023 08:23

@Illegally18 I’ve tried the Urban Decay primer and wasn’t that impressed, but I’m going to get the Barry M one as recommended above.

I think the urban decay primer is rubbish. I use a normal face primer, then base concealer, powder it in place with pat mcgrath under eye powder, then add a neutral powder on top, then a colour then a setting spray. Usually het around 5 to 7 hours out of it
